The Old Folks Home

It is ridiculous that people are calling for "de-militarizing" the police officers and limiting or banning use of military surplus riot gear. What are the officers supposed to use to protect themselves from a hostile crowd that often out numbers them 10 to 1? You all have seen how effective the tear gas and rubber bullets are (not.) What suggestions would you make for better methods? Talking it out? Who would you prefer to have control of the situation? The police, or the crowd?

Well, I do think it is excessive when the LA school resource officers carry Armalites.

And I am a bit upset that my town hauls out the armored personnel carrier every time they have an excuse. It is pretty silly when they haul it out to do probation checks. Combined with the attitudes of some of our cops (who seem to think they are back in Afghanistan or Iraq terrifying the natives) it can be pretty scary.

Preachers don't get paid much (trust me, I know) so I wonder if she was one of the folks whose relatively inexpensive policy was cancelled when the Affordable Care Act came into effect? She would have been forced to get coverage that she previously couldn't afford, but hey, the gov't picked up the difference, only of course, now they are talking about pulling out and scaling back the subsidies . . . . Ain't that fun?

I've found the opposite to be true.

I am not sure if this is agression and if its directed at me so I will presume both and aplolgise if you are offended by me.

A minister gets shot by a rubber bullet. Not good PR for the police. Your comment "I would think that would be incentive to stay home.". came across (to me atleast) as a little callous when a minister was probably not being unruly and was more than likely trying to discourage violence. She probably did not deserve a rubber bullet and is no doubt incentivised to stay home. Colatteral damage in not acceptable in civil unrest.

I know what a tough job cops have. Cops need the tools to protect in all circumstances.

I also know that the cops should not be routinely pointing military grade weapons at civilians. The weapons need to be pointed to the ground unless you are ready to pull the trigger. Many war vets have spoken out against the cops handling of crowd control in MO.

Not all ministers at protests are noted for obeying the law in any event.

If the store owner (who was the victim of browns robbery), would have shot brown during the robbery; would we even be talking about this? Idk all the facts but i did see the video of the robbery.

Great

Felix' description of summery is perfect. Great white wine music

I just listened to one of their albums -Recto/Verso. It's refreshing to listen to pleasant music in French that I can understand (slightly).

I'm actually weirdly feeling a renewed interest in the language.

If i go to the convenience store take what i want by force; would all my neighbors blame the police? I am trying to understand all this.

To help you understand, they're not blaming the police for him shoplifting. They're blaming the officer for killing an unarmed man standing some distance that the officer, according to the chief of police, didn't know was involved in the convenience store incident. The confrontation began as a jay walking incident.

Cool

An affordable health care discussion.

Just for giggles- go online and see how much you would pay for health insurance of you were poor with ObamaCare.

Not much.

Here is food for thought.

What happens if a person with a 5000 deductable and a 50% copay thats poor and gets sick?

They dont seek medical care because they cant afford ridiculous co-pays. They get sicker. They end up in hospital via the ER.

They dont pay the deductable.

The hospital puts them in collections but wipes it off as bad debt. Their credit rating tanks. They get stuck in "the poor cycle" unable to clear the deliquincy on their FICO score and pay high interest for any borrowed money.

The hospital stuggles to survive and gets a bail-out through the disproportionate share (Dish) funding by the govt. (The hospital I work for got $23million in funding from treating underinsured and noninsured last year)

We pay the deductable as tax payers. We pay their health care bill.

Wiping those scam policies where the victim thinks they have health insurance was good for the country.

The affordable care act has surpassed expectations. Its time to admit it and find another reason to elect a Republican president.
