When I was young my friend introduced me to grape jelly & cream cheese sandwiches- pretty good. Maybe peanut butter hadn't been invented yet.
Trader Joe's has a product called "pumpkin butter," only available in fall. Actually it isn't butter but kind of a runny jelly. It is fantastic with peanut butter. But let's say the first ingredient is SUGAR, then a little pumpkin, cloves and stuff.
Speaking of sandwiches - were we? My cousin used to spread "Spry," (like solid Crisco) on bread and then sugar it. He was 'odd' even way back then.
Now and then when I decide to go meatless I put baked beans on wheat bread, either open faced or as a sandwich.
You know, when you run out of stuff you improvise. I had a craving for peanut butter cups and had none. So I poured Hershey syrup into a jar of peanut butter. Delicious but, guess I shouldn't have eaten the entire jar. Minor details. I was sacrificing myself in the name of food science.
Some of my best creations happen that way - no ice cream for a sundae so I filled a
cereal bowl with whipped cream, drips of Hershey syrup and a maraschino cherry on top.
Not as filling as ice cream but, good in a pinch.
Or if you have tons of ice cream cones and no ice cream . WHO keeps eating my ice cream? You can fill them with pudding, Nutella, or nutella , or pudding. Running out of fillings here.
