I am on a 4 day break from work. I am not particularly a fan of shopping but I had a pretty good day yesterday. Armed with notepad and pen I walked around one of our biggest shopping centres comparing and pricing the saucepans. I ended up going back to one store 5 times; the young man on the door gave me a smile the first couple of times and then switched to "back again?". I explained that I was doing my homework before purchase. 3 hours of research and walking later I scored myself a couple of bargains; picked up a Bluestone fry pan set for half price and a set of Stanley Rogers saucepans reduced from $399.90 to $120. It was a good feeling to come home and throw out all the old, worn out, mismatched pans and replace them with two beautiful sets. Picked up a roasting dish while I was there Oh yeah, threatened the fella's with all sorts of nasties if they put any of them in the dishwasher! lol

Isn't it wonderful to have pots and pans all made of the same materials by the same maker, which all cook consistently with each other?

I remember the day my husband took me to the store and bought me a complete set of Le Creuset. With Le Creuset you don't have to go to the gym to lift weights.

Oh, and I like jam better too. Jelly just seems artificial to me.

Jelly is made from the juice only. If the fruit itself doesn't have enough pectin, you can use apple juice or pectin to thicken it.

Made with real juice and very tasty.

Added: preserves are bigger pieces and often more of the fruit.

This is the same reason why I love sweet potato pie "Yes, I must have one more slice, I haven't been getting enough vitamin A lately"

Also, when making jelly (haven't made it for eons, but I do remember how.....so odd what I remember and what I don't), if you add in a few of the green berries (or grapes, whatever) they have a higher pectin content and will help the jelly/jam/preserves jell better withOUT having to use something like "surejell" which I always disliked. If I used surejell, I was almost guaranteed to end up with juice not jelly.

in case, on the off chance I wasn't already.. I am about to go crazy!

My totally full, with expensive items, freezer is trying to die on me.

I am having issues.

The open door alarm keeps yelling at me.... but I have
1. cleaned all around the seal
2. duct taped it very tightly closed
3. googled possible causes and cures
4.turned it off completely fro about 20 and then 30 minutes until the motor was totally cold.
5. removed as many items as possible


it is still beeping at me

I simply can NOT figure it out.

So, once I noticed that it had gotten warm enough that some of the frozen food boxes felt damp, I got the three eldest to load up the food (TWO large garden carts full) and go through the neighborhood trying to find freezer space for it.

The spouse is ueber grumpy about it. Thinks I should have snapped my fingers to fix it or something. sheesh

Anyway, it is a great deal of food, and we only have four actual houses as neighbors, one tiny house, one tiny efficiency, and three dry cabins. But, I think spread around, it will all get put into a freezer. -sigh-

Also, Salmon Faverolles are, IMHO one of the sweetest as well as cutest chickens, but MAN they die easily in my experience.  They seem to be OK once grown, but in my experience they die more easily in the chick and not yet grown stage.

I didn't socialize this one much, so it was voted "most likely to break it's own neck when I enter the coop" but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be out of the coop away from its flock at dark!

In the continuing saga of Alaskan's freezer.... after only three stops, both carts are empty. yeah.

I mean, yeah!

The third stop was still awake at 10pm AND had a giant "I am hoping to kill a moose, but haven't gotten one yet" freezer space.

Anyone want to hope that the freezer will have spontaneously fixed itself after having 'rested' over night? Or, are we gonna take the train into reality-ville and realize that the repairman, with his fat bill book is gonna be trucking up my drive tomorrow.
