The Old Folks Home

Ronott sorry that was confusing. The senior bus only operates a few hours weekdays, no weekends and no holidays(they make up some of their own).

On most Sundays my brother will take me somewhere I wasn't able to go during the week.
He has Labor Day off and said he'd take me to Hobby Lobby. Tonight he said "IF, they are open Labor Day." I had the perfect come back. "Of course they are, I just called them."

So then some muttering about "probably not ALL of their stores were open". But I had called the one closest to him and Yes they are.

It is good to hear that you can get out of the house when you need to

The depression was there before.... he didnt know he was self medicating.

Definitely possible.

However, a number of drugs permanently change the dopamine receptors of the brain so that you can never again feel as happy as a 'normal' person, because you have permanently changed your dopamine receptors to need a greater input in order to achieve the same level of happiness.

I took the deposition of a cutting edge neurologist in Las Vegas and his slide show was pretty amazing. The photo images from the brain scan machine traced the receptors and synapses. There was the healthy brain which was awash with rainbows -- it looked like a wild telephone switchboard, a mesh of wires -- and then a few years later of deterioration a dismally flat brain with few arcs and arches and a sporadic wire trace or two. This was in an alcoholic and substance abuser. Oh, yeah. Drugs definitely affect the uptake and brain wiring.

My spouse, back in grad school, would give rats cocaine, then take their brains, cut out thin slices and see how much the entire brain had changed. It was easy to see with just a regular microscope.

Some young guy (maybe in his mid to late twenties) told me that it is good to move on and enter different stages of life.

Maybe I am too "Petter Pan" or some such.

I would love to have a "do over" and replay all of my life. I would make different choices, probably make the same number of mistakes, but hopefully different ones.

So, are all of you old people having fun family time, or going out dancing, singing around tables, dancing in rivers, fishing off of piers in the moonlight?

*sigh*

Maybe I need to join the grumpy old folks thread.

nothing special going on here. Though my son is having a major meltdown over the start of College. I am keeping him focused on the important stuff. Or at least trying to.... he is his own worst enemy. On the Deans list Astronomy major self driven... 3.7 average.... going to school on Pell Grants. This year hes considered a Senior because of the units hes already done. Yet hes only been at San Diego State three semesters.

He was looking back at the classes he took at Community college and he is two classes away from getting an AS in physics. yet he wont take credit for his accomplisments. He only sees the future as an exercise in futility. Keeps asking me if he could be successful without getting a Bachelors degree.
