The Old Folks Home

we did not grow up with this thing merkans call italian sausage.

Nono (grandfather) made salami that was eaten with bread and prosciutto. Mortadella was bought at the deli.

Spagetti sauce was cooked with beef, pork or chicken cut up. We did not have bolognaise - a northern italian product. Marinara was seafood spagetti. It baffles me to this day how marinara sauce became a meatless tomato sauce. Meatless sauce was pomadoro (tomato)

Nana made rissoles (meatballs) that were always browned before adding to a sauce.

I got a PM from Tom in Pa. Instead of replacing my Basques and Coronation Sussex eggs with only shipping it's going to be Swedish Flower Hens from Greenfire. I'm totally out of the Basque business until next spring. He discontinued raising them and lost his big sussex cock. So the cockerel is not fertile yet. Next spring he is offering Crested Cream Legbar also. I hope I have luck with SFH. He did say that he had a lot of trouble getting them to hatch. 3 out of a dozen or so. So I told him how I doing with the 2 hr cooling that Ron told us about. He's going to try it next spring. I'm on Day 16 with my White Rocks. I saw 2 clears yesterday but the rest are growing. I hope I hope.

Too much frustration!

Yep, I am looking at what grew out for me....and am DISAPPOINTED in what I got.

I guess I was just thinking that I would have birds closer to SOP. I think I was thinking that one would be the color I wanted with a bad comb, and one would have a great comb but be too skinny in the chest...that sort of thing.

But, like in my Dominiques, NONE of them are even CLOSE to the right color! There are some with a good build, but NONE of them have a good tail. The tails range from horrid to "I guess it won't make me barf". There is one with a good comb and wattle. IDK I guess I just thought that it wasn't that rare of a breed, I wouldn't have this 'starting way down in the basement" kinda feeling.

I do like my very expensive bantam Wheaten Ameraucana, they are looking VERY nice. Which is good, since I have ONE girl and two boys.

Actually, my very nicely priced eBay eggs, bantam Blue Laced Red Wyandotte look good too. Not all of them, and they aren't perfect, but they look pretty good, I can definitely see working with what I have and being happy with the result.

I would rather like to eat ALL of my Dominique, Rose Comb Dark Brown Leghorns, and Golden Penciled Hamburgs, and breed only the two bantams and some Marans...but the kids really love the personality of the Dominiques, and so want to keep two of those roosters.

I NEED MY SPOUSE TO BE BODY SNATCHED AND REPLACED WITH A POULTRY LOVING (or more tolerant) version!!!!
(I need at least one more coop)

Bahahaha I know the feeling. DD told me today that the chicken coop area looked like Fred Samsons. I hold her that I'll get it picked up tomorrow. The only trouble is I have a lot of bags of compost and and pots sitting around waiting for my container garden. I can only do so much each day and today was way busy. My problem is the house sits sideways and the back yard is open to the road. I've really got to get busy.

Whew! It's been a busy weekend! Let's see....
Congrats on the birthdays (young and younger!)
Congrats on the successful surgery and speedy recovery.
Beautiful photos, keep 'em coming.
Good luck on the land acquisition and congrats on the loan approval.
I'm sure there were other things I should have mentioned, but I was distracted by a commotion.......
I know I react differently than most, but I found the whole mess somewhat amusing.

Stop it already! I just ate chicken Alfredo delivery from dominos and y'all are making me hungry all over again. And I'm so stuffed!
Also just finished watching that new remake of Robocop. Pretty cool flick.

Been really busy this week. We tiled the bathroom floor and it was our first time. Really looks good. Now to cut new shoe moulding and replace the toilet.

Tnspursfan09, glad to see Maddie doing so well. Saw the video and she is a doll.

All this talk about food has really got me in a cooking mood. Think I'll make homemade spaghetti tomorrow, with lots of mushrooms, onions, and garlic.

Today I made chicken and broccoli stir fry and fried rice. I also made chocolate cake with coconut pecan frosting.(All from scratch--I do not have mixes at my house)

It was my youngest DDs 15th birthday today.

I am also taking care of my DW that crashed her motorcycle two weeks ago. She likely needs another operation to fix a torn ACL in her knee. The foot may need work too. We are waiting on some MRIs.

It is terribly exhausting. I am going to try giving three of my hens worm medicine tonight....

Yay I'm in a cooking mood too, I have the water boiling and will throw in an ear of corn.
Presto, change-o - some people might need salt or pepper and butter but, I like my corn straight.

Taking care of someone can be exhausting, physically as well as mentally. Hope the MRI shows nothing serious and no surgery will be needed.
That frosting sounds delicious...how do you make it? Is it similar to the frosting on german chocolate cake?
