I'm in the high mountain desert too, we do sushi at home with stuff we get at the restaurant supply place where all the sushi places in denver get their fish. I just buy the fish, make the rice and wasabi, my bf slices and rolls. We'll have 6 people over and stuff ourselves silly with grilled eel, tuna, salmon, octopus, smelt roe, for about $35 feed 6 starving ppl.. we eat really well, as we're foodies. Which is probably why my bf goes along with my let's go get this kinda critter and this breed. The kicker- he doesn't even like eggs! He hates them, but loves our chickens. He did say to me- no more chickens until spring.
I asked for 2 incubators for Christmas. Yes already. B/c my bf gets an extra paycheck this month.. I gotta ask for what I want santa to bring now. And I saw this thing for chicks it's a heat thing with a dome and a nipple waterer thing, I need a few of those too lol.
I haven't had my coffee yet and it's after noon.. complete thoughts later.
Aaaahhh finally Dirty Chi Latte.... with four espressos.... the marbles are puttin down their kick stands.... I am a happy camper... Yep noon.
I have yet to try my hand at Sushi roll making.... Hmmmm.... there is a Smart and Final in the next town... Or I could just go to where all the Asian Grocery stores are...
Must give it a try.... Um Oh I am a foodie too.
Had an Andrew Zimmern moment "Bizarre Foods" a while back at my favorite Sushi place. The Sushi chef is from Thailand... I asked him for Flying Fish Roe.... He didnt understand I talked a bit more and he got a big grin and nodded.... He turned and spoke to the waitress who disappeared into the kitchen..... I turned to my son,.... "Should I be afraid?" He just grinned and kept eating his spider roll.
About fifteen minutes later a bowl was passed down to the Sushi chef and he handed to me what looked like breaded French fries and a little Bowl of Ponzu sauce.... He grinned at me.... "I eat every day for breakfast" the french fries had EYES.
They were little baby smelt-like fish Breaded and cooked whole.... And very Yummy I started calling them FishFries.... I dont order them often because I know they come from the Chefs personal stash.
His wife got a giggle when I explained what happened.... they both do sushi.
