Oz, that's true. Although apparently it's anti social to spend a lot of time on BYC, or so I've heard. And I don't know if @Nifty-Chicken is God...

I have not had much time to be on BYC lately doing so much fall cleaning and figuring out who all is coming to Thanksgiving dinner here. I am also hoping 75 lbs of turkey and 30 lbs of ham is enough meat for 30 people. What do y'all think?

From my experience, the 30lb ham would be enough for 30 people to get completely stuffed during one meal. We usually get about 5 days of food from a 20lb ham for about 6 people. And that's enough to make me not want Christmas food until next year again.

Thanks vehve. My DH said we probably only need one of our turkey's cooked so he may be right. lol We will have 12 here for a few days so hopefully it will all fit in the fridg. Usually I need two fridg's for all the food after Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. lol So I will only plan on cooking one Turkey and the two hams.

Wow I would have to cook that turkey in a HUGE barbeque.... you must have a commercial sized oven.

I think the other question to ask is how long are they staying and are you counting on them taking home care packages....

But a pound per person of food would be more than enough.... The other thing you have to remember is the other food that is eaten at Thanks giving.... Gravy mashed Potatoes Veggie trays Pie deviled eggs .... Dressing. Beer Wine Eggnog.... Milk, Soda, Water too. All that stuff counts too.

Are the guests going to be bringing a dish?

When we have had more than five people for Thanksgiving we go to a fifteen pound turkey... But we eat Dinner and lunch the next day and Dinner the next day.... Then the turkey gets picked and divided and sent home to who ever is leaving town.

A 75 pound turkey is going to be waaaaay too much for 30 people.
Even if you plan on a pound and a half per person that would be 45 pounds of turkey....

I'm thinking that per person per meal, half a pound of turkey or ham (raw weight with bone) is more than enough. But as Deb says, much depends on what you're serving with it.

I don't think it's a 75-lb turkey. I grew a 56-lb one once and it barely fit in a commercial oven.... And it was an ordeal for the folks at the special events restaurant to get it to the table. I think the guy ended up giving it a bear hug delivery.

(And it certainly wasn't that big at T-day....had to wait for Easter to get that size)
