The Old Folks Home

I really like your set up that is very nice CC. Thanks for sharing the pics of your water barrel I just showed my DH and he likes the idea we could do that and only need two barrels. Thank you so much.

It sure looks like Christmas at your place. :)
I'll try to get some better pictures of the water system. Make sure you don't use clear tubing anywhere the sun can reach it or it will get algae in it. I use a sight glass I made out of Excelon clear PVC with a piece of cork I painted white so I can tell when the water is getting low.

The coarsely threaded bung goes on top and has a tap for a 3/4" female NPT opening.
The fine thread opening takes 2" NPT PVC.

I have one barrel for the 5 unit breeder house, another serves 2 coops and then a different bulk water system with a 4" PVC loop for the last coop.

I found the barrels on craigslist. I think they had stored vinegar. They were $20 each. I bought 3 but didn't have a means to haul them so he delivered free. Then I gave him a tour of the chickens and he brought me some free food a couple times. He also hauls for ADM and gets waste ground grain from the train/truck dock.

Great to see Maddie enjoying herself - that gal has more bounce to the ounce

I think it gets earlier every decade, just like store displays.

I remember when I was a kid, it was usually about a week before. A couple times we were really poor and bought the tree on Christmas eve when they went on sale.

My wife decorates early for every holiday. By Oct 1, Halloween stuff everywhere. That comes down Nov 1 replaced by Tgiving stuff and Tgiving weekend or shortly thereafter it's Christmas stuff. Then Easter, blah, blah, blah.

We are going to put the tree up this week. We were going to do it this past weekend but I got busy making my MIL's Christmas present and some stuff for the baby.

I used to have everything done by Thanksgiving weekend. Now I just got the outside lights up and this week I'll put the tree up. I like a real tree but this year it's going to be the artificial ones. I used to have 12 trees. One in every room. And a village of 68 houses and buildings. But this house is smaller so I've toned it down quite a bit. 3 or 4 trees maybe. And I've yet to put any of the 30 remaining houses and buildings up of the village. Maybe Next year. It takes soooo Looonnnng.

CC love your set up! I like the rain barrel set up to. But how do you get water in it? Did I miss something?

Dsqard those are so cool!!! Lucky receipients!

It's our tradition the week after Thanksgiving we get the tree and put up the decorations. Now that the kids are teens, it's a LOT more work since they disappeared on me. I get opinions as they come and go, but that's about it. Going to lighten the load as the kitten has made sure to try to attack everything I have put up so far. LOL

Maybe I'll string some popcorn garland today. I have always wanted to do that...

We're still in the process of unpacking (as in our living room became our storage area for the moving boxes) and so I'm not sure where or if we'll have an indoor tree this year. However, there's a nifty blue spruce out on the front lawn that just screamed for holiday decoration. It has solar lights on it in strands of white and red that light up with the sun goes down. Since this photo there has been added a couple of Beanie Baby-like cardinals to the top branches.

We did that one year with popcorn and cranberries. We did enough popcorn for the 9 foot tree and saved it in ziplock bags for 2 years.

the last year it started falling off the string. We only did enought cranberries to string around a small tree. We ended up putting it outside for the birds. Cranberries are hard to get the needle through. so we gave up.
