The Old Folks Home

The youngest always get the good stuff....I sure wish I had my Dad's replica colt 45 long barrel gun fighting pistols. He bought them in the 1950's. I think my middle brother has them, along with the 1800's Remington shotgun.

She's the youngest sister but older than I. There's some distance between siblings. But the sisters, especially the youngest did seem to get some good stuff. She got all the Christmas stuff including the house sized santa and his present bag that my mother made from scratch.
She got some of the best antiques. How did that happen?
She also vetoed my buying the old homestead unless I paid what she thought it was worth.
I refused to pay the 200,000 she envisioned and let it be sold on the market. It was a log cabin, no sewer, central heat, etc. with some outbuildings including a machine shed, summer kitchen and a hen house for up to 200 hens which she thought could be zoned commercial. NOT
With no sewer, gas and other modern essentials, it was considered an unimproved parcel.
It sold for 30,000. Tough way to prove my point.

That stinks, I remember when the oldest grandchild talked dh grandparents to start selling off their farm. 40 acres went almost immediately, then another 10 leaving 40 for that grand child to ruin after she smoked the gparents right out of their home. She is a slick talker and already lived there so she did it without anyone knowing.

Then, she wanted to sell the rest 5 years later. No one seems to care about heritage any more. Being adopted, I would give anything to know where I came from and would guard a homestead with my life.

I would have gladly paid 30k. In the end we each got 7.5.

It had a 1 acre garden, hot beds, 100+ year old grapes, peaches, apples, pears, big rhubarb bed, ice cellar, root cellar, et. al.. Not to mention the huge hen house. There were 6 large (about 6X20) glassed hotbeds that we started tomatoes, peppers and brassicas. Though they did lots more before the 40 acre farm was sold, we usually started about 1000 tomato plants for the garden and the rest we sold roadside with eggs and other produce.
Those growing things were replaced with a parking lot.

My oldest sister wanted to know where her inheritance was this year when dad died... After my DH and I matched what mom and dad had put into their mortgage in the form of renovations, ( so we could all live together) paid Half the mortgage each month for five years, and took care of them, all the yard work all the House maintenance... Mom has MS and dad was very sick for years ( cancer ) but apparently all my work and my money where not worth anything once I had no mortgage ( paid off by dads life insurance ) apparently me no longer having a mortgage is unfair... I still care for mom the house the yard and DHs money pays for the rest ( hydro etc ) but she didn't get anything, so I'm the spoiled one....
