Anyone able to identify this incubator so I can find the manual online and read more about it?



I *might* have ordered more eggs than I think I can stuff in my incubator. Someone is giving me this one late next week.

I'm guessing a free incubator is a lot like a free goat... a lot of work.

If yours has an egg turner you can double stack the eggs. I know someone that regularly did this to great success then turn the new incubator into a hatcher.... to take the overflow at Lock down.

She said it does have a turner. I'll be getting it tomorrow. I'm trading a loaf of bread, some jam and a jar of my rustic apples with raisins and cherries (that I just made tonight, WISHER!!!). I could have it "for free" but I at least like to express my thanks with calories.

Ok... I'm a pretty intelligent human being and I would have NEVER thought to equate a children's toy with temperature monitoring.

Thanks for the explanation. Do you monitor temp in a specific place? Are you looking for 99.5? 100?

No need for a new thread. This is a great place for friends to talk about incubating. Ron already answered the temp thing (I shoot for 98.5 - 990 for hatching, only.)

Now that you have it, I encourage you to try staggered hatches. Use the Brinsea for the first 18 days, then pull the ones about to hatch and put them in the stryro-bator at the end. I try to wait until I hear them peeping to move them to the less-dependable stryro-bator. I like that it is easier to clean when I only hatch a few at a time, I keep paper towels in the bottom and around the edges of the screen to catch goo. I just pull out the paper towels, brush off the screen, wipe down the lid, and spray with diluted bleach. I rinse it three or so days before I plug it back in for the next batch.

Each week during hatching season, I set eggs in the cabinet incubator on Saturday night, clean stryo-hatchers on Monday evening, and let them dry all day Tuesday. I set them up again, and plug them in, on Wednesday and let them warm up all day on Thursday. I candle and listen for internal pips (usually on Friday morning) and move them to the stryo-hatcher. Pipping and zipping usually happens on Friday evening through Saturday evening, (which is when I set more eggs) and it starts over.

I hatch whatever the Campines lay, I'll be setting 6 tonight. I also occasionally hatch for others, and sometimes hatch my own eggs to sell. My cabinet incubator is never full, but the hatchers get crowded. I wish (there I go again) I had at least two more.

My Brinsea only fits about 30 eggs (they claim 24 but have clearly not been under the influence of Dar) so I've never had the need for a staggered hatch. The Brinsea gets all nasty and the top is very hard to clean, so I may start using the LG for hatching. However, it looks like I'm going to have close to 35 eggs if I win the other auction that ends in 2 hours (and 20 eggs if I don't) and that's assuming nothing breaks in shipment and no extras are sent. It might be a close one where I won't have to fiddle with the LG...

...but just in case I have a clown fish water wiggler in my amazon cart, ready to go. I do hope they send the blue one. It would be traumatic to try to hatch with the yellow one.

Now I'm just waiting for the opossum to show up and my egg auction to be over...
