The Old Folks Home

So when you purge the crawfish how is that done?   Do you feed them cornmeal....?  I dont know why I thought of that....  shows how much I know....

as soon as we catch em we put them in fresh water with a big aquarium bubbler thingy. U will probably need to change the water every 4-6 hours. It usually takes about 24 hours for the water to be clear

We get our sushi fish from the place the restaurants get it from for much less than going out for sushi. My bf has gotten to be quite a talented sushi roller the past 9 years :)

To find the gumbo I liked the best I lived in New Orleans for a year and a half and tasted many a gumbo, I found one I liked and learned how to make it. I make my roux with lard, butter and rice flour and will take up to 45 minutes to develop the dark roux I like. Most people quit too early into the roux.
i totally agree about the roux taking alot of time. We bake ours for 1 1/2-2 hours.

Deb, very fresh taste, not at all too sweet. Texture was pretty nice too, not too jello like. The dairy products really balanced that out. All in all, pretty good ending to a filling meal.

Awesome.... We used to make a dessert here at Holidays that I havent had in a very long time. Lime jello mixed with cottage cheese crushed pineapple and coarsely chopped Walnuts. Sounds wierd but the taste combo is awesome.

Wow I didnt know there was mayo in it... I dont think grandma made it with mayo or condensed milk. But the dish is kind of savory sweet... but not too sweet.

There is a local spring/streambed where you can catch crawfish here.... you hook some bacon on a hook and when you pull the bacon out of the water it will be covered with crawfish duking it out for territory.... LOL. But the most we have ever been able to catch were about four or five. EVERYONE goes there to fish for crawfish.

The only other source would be the bait store.... We simply dont have enough water sources for crawfishing.... sigh.

If I remember correctly, the US can only produce about half the shrimp it consumes, so they need to import the stuff. All our shrimp here is imported, we don't have them naturally. Only crayfish.

Wisher, American Pie is the song and movie franchise.

Okay, then the cake:

I have had eels and reed fish..... At one time in the house I had over three hundred gallons worth of Aquaria.... Big 110 gallon tank in the living room with Community fish. Angles Neon tetra a whole school of them.... Rasbora and a few mollys. Oh and a plecostomous buttefly cat fish Banjo Cat fish and a juvenile Geophagus Jurapari.... The angels went from the size of a nickle to the size of my hand within three months. AND started spawning.... The Plecostomous ate the eggs though. sigh.... I never thought I would be able to breed Angels so never thought about the other aspects.

I built my son a Frog Vivarium for his bedroom.... sixty gallon tank half land half water filtered by an under gravel filter that made a waterfall. Then we put a few goldfish in the pond... That eventually was turned into a vivarium for two red eared sliders.... I bought them at a garage sale. Under the size of a ffity cent piece.... by the time I built them a pond in the front yard they were the size of the small plate about six inches across.... I fed them Ghost shrimp when they were little and meal worms and crickets.

I love the odd fishies..... All the funny cat fish Bumble bee cats that are so covered with barbs you cant catch them in a net beause it takes an hour to get them out of the mesh. And when they come out of the water they vibrated and buzz to scare off predators.....

This is what some called an eel but its actually a fish. Complete with pectoral fins, anal fins and dorsal fins.... and scales

I have had fire eels too. Very small juveniles about the lenght of a pencil

Eels though are delcate because they have no scales so you have to be careful to watch for Ick and keep the ph level right for them. So I really prefer fish with scales.

Banjo CAT

Butterfly fish

Geophagus Jurapari

I love Geophagus because they spend thier time picking up rocks and spitting them out.... picking up rocks and spitting them out.... Picking up rocks and spitting them out..... Did I say they picked up rocks and spit them out?

They just look silly while they are doing it. They are gleaning microorganisms off the rocks...

Oh and my plecostomous was the size of a bedroom slipper and about twenty years old... One of my first fish.

I have seen them up to two feet long at big freshwater aquariums....

I still have my 110 gallon aquarium up at the house. Thats going to be the nursery for the Tilapia male and female.... Once I get setup.
