The Old Folks Home

SCG, sorry about your finger. With the stuff I do, I'm forever getting things stuck in my fingers; I've gotten pretty good at doing some things with only half a hand. Sewing on a machine can be one of them. My mother was once part of a quilting circle; unfortunately, she's a "bleeder." She told them they needed to do a quilt in shades of rust and brown, because they were hand quilting, and every time she poked her finger, she had to sit out for quite a while waiting for the bleeding to stop.

One of my most frequent finger foreign objects are blackberry or Smilax thorns. They can get deep, and difficult to get out - I've had a couple that wound up coming out in a different place than they went in.

Almost as bad are the fine spines on the prickly pear cactus - you can feel 'em, you know they are there, but you can't see the darned things to get 'em out!

Alaskan,

That was me! It's the Southwest Bacon Fest in Albuquerque, whose main sponsors are the local breweries and so plenty of suds to wash down all that bacony goodness.
AH! Yep, all I had to do was read your desciption once..... and I just SO WANT that festival! The one I am going to has all sorts of small time craft brews, mostly beer but also mead, etc. There was some pretty good pizza there last year..... but the thought of beer and bacon!

Wow, I drool just thinking about it! Unfortunately, Alaska is a big beer and coffee place, but we don't have that many home grown pigs.

not the right climate. We grow lots of potatoes, carrots and kale.

Yep, we could have a beer and kale festival. Maybe some cabage and broccali too, those grow great here.

Morning. The new year has started with depressing weather here. It's gloomy and wet and the snow is melting...

Yep, the snow is all gone again, lots of rain..... There was a layer of frost this morning. Are we sure I live in Alaska?

Just like any other day only I don't have to go to work (BF does, though. It's very nice to no longer manage a 24/7 department).

Call me a stick in the mud but I'm not one for new years celebrations. To me, the new year is nothing other than a change in number. Nothing magical happens. Good luck doesn't ooze from the ceiling just because it's a new year. It's the same. You have the same chance today, tomorrow, next week, to make things happen, just like you did in the year that just went by.

Bah, humbug.

Next time just buy a cheap car without a security system!

I don't want power doors, power windows, automatic transmission. This last time I had to get power windows and doors unless I wanted to buy a very old vehicle. I fear next time there will be no manual transmissions left.

The way I see it though, the manual transmission is my security system.
So true! I know so many people who have no idea how to drive one!

And yep, super harder to find a car that has one. The last two cars I have bought I HAD to buy an automatic. Drives me crazy.

I don't think you can get a new car without power windows etc..........
