The Old Folks Home

Kewel.... The reason they are Called Guinea Pigs is through the Dutch traders. they were so cute the brought them home and sold them as pets for a Guinea... and they do have a grunting squeek... like a pig.

But they do have different properties from other rodents. They cannot manufacture vitimine C in their digestive system... Just like US. they have to eat C in their veggies in order to get the right amount. Probably their similarities to our physiology is why they were used for experiments on drugs.

I watched a nature show a couple of years ago that was about the worlds rodents. It is amazing how many of the there are in the world and the size of them from very small to fairly large. They have adapted to a lot of different conditions and climates too.

I have a lot of facebook pages that I read and you would not believe how many people eat the guinea pigs and raise them for food just like rabbits already.

Hi everybody! When my daughter was in 4H and showed her rabbit at our county fair it was a rabbit and cavies show. I always wondered why guinea pigs were there? Until I watched that bizzare foods show where they eat them like we do rabbits in south america.

Squirrel taste like rabbit, only tougher. I usually debone the meat and do them up like fried chicken. Squirrel stew and pot pies are good also.

I cook tough old birds in the slow cooker. Easier to monitor, when I used the pressure cooker sometimes I would over do it and had to pick all the little bones out of the meat.
