The Old Folks Home

@Wisher1000 I almost forgot!

Thanks, CW! On closer inspection and reflection, I used the hole saw to make four holes and then connected them with the jigsaw, but you see the basic structure. I am very happy with this design. The S&D pipe and fittings cost much less than the 4" PVC, I realize that not many people have access to old deer feeders, but I was thinking that an old plastic water cooler jug in a frame would work as well.

Mozza has the most beautiful eyes. That nose ring stuff really has to hurt. I don't suppose you could teach her to walk with a collar and leash

BTW what is the difference in Cassa whatevers and Emus?
the rope will be replaced with a metal ring

its necesary for using her as a "beast of burdon" - as wth bullocks in the US.

A cassowary is a tropical relative of the emu

They are much more wild in so far as they are more agressive but they are really pretty

How are the Emu males? We had a Ostrich farm over the hill from us. I drove through one day and one was loose walking up the road, luckly it was a back road. I 'hearded' it with my car back to where their fence was. Had its head just feet from mine with the window down, it was pretty cool. I stopped at their house and the owner says"It's not the black one I hope", yeah it is black. They freaked out said it was the male, told me to stay way away from it and they didn't know how they were going to get it back in. The thing was huge, and mean!

You're welcome! Thanks for posting it in the first place. I like it! I think I'll try a similiar version in my run this summer! awesome!

Emu's are the most timid of the four (not sure if there are any other birds in this genus) birds in the ratite family. They are very curious birds and like to peck at most anything. Especially exposed ears!!!!!! The males as I know it rarely get aggressive but the females are another story especially during prebreeding season while choosing a mate. Ratites have reverse gender roles as the males make the nests, incubate the eggs and raise the young. The females will typically lay anywhere from 30 to 60 eggs per season and start laying after they are two years old. The males become very aggressive while protecting the young though. They also have a life expectantly around 30 years.

My former stepfather-in-law used to raise emu, peacocks and swans. I rarely went down to that portion of the ranch (1) because it was so noisy, (2) it smelled, (3) there often was a disagreeable step-relative there and (4) because I was usually busy at the other end of the ranch with the sheep, goats, buffalo and my stud colt. The incubated emu chicks, though, were darling and would follow you around like puppies. I seem to recall they're pretty good swimmers, too, as we had one that would periodically show up on the other side of the lake that was the border on one side of their enclosure.
