The Old Folks Home

I got a weird little egg today

what the what?!
That's what is sometimes called a wind egg or a fart egg - most often happen to hens that are just getting started. Crazy cute little things, huh?

@tnspursfan09 I'm so glad Maddy is OK! We had a similar incident with a little 20-lb mixed breed and my son when he was a toddler. He tripped over the dog, and the dog just reacted. She didn't mean to hurt him, but he has a scar under his right eye to this day . . . . gads, that could have been so much worse.

That's what I'm saying. Of course my brain starts flashing all the worst case scenarios, in vivid color, until I make myself sick. Tonight, though, is game night at the fairy godmothers house and they are cooking us a grand dinner, I'm sure. Give us all a bit of merriment.

*edited because autocorrect think it knows better than me.

I picked up a Chow mix on the road back when my boys were little. Chows are notoriously unpredictable, and I didn't trust her much. I had seen no signs of aggression, but I knew Chows. I was watching her like a hawk and trying to decide if she could stay, only because the boys loved her.

I had warned/threatened the boys not to let her out of the fence because she was in heat. The last thing we needed was puppies. One day, I was in the car and one of the boys had to go back inside to get something. I again warned him not to let Ruby out. He did fine going in, but on his way out, she slipped past him and took off.

He took a quick, panicked glance at me then took off after her. He was actually gaining on her when she turned her head and it startled her that he was right there. She tripped, and he tripped over her. They tumbled and rolled, both screaming in surprise and fear. I could do nothing but watch, and my eyes were trained on Ruby's mouth. I fully expected her to bite him, but she didn't. She never even bared her teeth or turned her head toward him. They came to a stop, both on their backs, and Ruby rolled over and licked him in the face.

She stayed with us until her death, from advanced age and natural causes, many years later.........

I am hoping to get out this Saturday and enjoy the nice weather we are having here too Bunny. It is supposed to reach around 60 degrees (shhhhhhhh, don't tell SCG she is having an awful winter

) and it is "Bald Eagle Day" in the wetlands area. I am hoping they put fish out for the birds again this year so I can get some great shots. I also learned that next month they have a tundra swan day sometime in March. They get thousands of migrating swans through the area. I will have to head out that way again in March.

Don't forget Chandler has an ostrich festival. I have been wanting to go for years. You could go and I could live through your photos.

I hear you. I made my mom stop taking several meds over the years. Just because "my dr told me to take this" isn't good enough reason for me, the benefits have to outweigh the risk, which these days they certainly don't.

Use your pharmacist - take all your meds (anything you put on or in your body, regardless of whether it's a prescription or an over the counter) and bring them in for a pharmacist to review (just a plug - if it's a busy place call first). We live for this kind of thing!!!!!! Depending on your situation, we can either suggest things for you to discuss with your provider, or we can talk to the provider ourselves.

From what I understand statins can cause severe muscle problems and that's a reason to change meds or go off. My brother went through 3 different brands till one he tolerated. My sister and I are on Lipitor - I get a 10mg. daily at bedtime. Her dose is larger.

My dad was on so many meds that caused dizziness - and he fell often. The docs couldn't imagine why. Geez. He was even on two drugs for Alzheimer (he just had dementia) - the pharmacist said he never heard of that practice.
We fought over it with them a lot. His urologist had him on something he was supposed to get for a short time. But every time he called for refills the nurse kept putting them through. Much later on a different nurse noticed he was still getting it refilled and put a stop to it. Really scary isn't it?

If you have a good relationship with your pharmacist by all means show him all meds and discuss with him. I've known mine for many years and always ask him about new meds.

I'm assuming you played uno first because monopoly is a never ending game. Looks like it was fun though.

Just candled a few eggs in the dishwasherbator and all the ones I checked had veining. @chickadoodles both the chantecler and buckeyes have veining along with the ee's and a couple of the mystery eggs.

Actually, we played Monopoly (its monopoly but made for Jonesborough...called "jonesboroughopoly") first and then those of us who went bankrupt started a game of uno. Maddy would have won uno but she refuses to use her wild cards...she hoards them.
