Learned a long time ago that at restaurants on Valentine's Day the food is overpriced and mediocre, the service is slow and the places are too crowded.

So true - much prefer a nice, quiet evening in with a delicious dinner prepared just the way I like it and the service is always great, lol.

Spent most of the week at my daughters stripping wallpaper and painting! Boy am I sore!

Congrats to all the new chicks! Sorry about all the nasty weather. We have it too.

The weather has been ridiculously warm here! Scary warm. Nice yes, but we are in for it. Not sure I shared this..but I think we are going to have to be really careful with consumption this yr. I can just see all of the yellow lawns this yr. And, you will have to ask for a glass of water instead of expecting one brought to you at restaurants. Happened yrs. ago, but I think we are coming up for an even worse yr.

I told ya...well, I told my DH. We can move out there, and I think I have a friend already. We could help each other shovel each other's driveways.

the deep deserts get that. in Imperial county where we grow most of our Alfalfa and Bermuda it regularly gets up to 115. Low places in IMperial county puts em about 50 feet below sea level.

Out in the middle of the state close to where the mountains rise up to Taho.... is the Mojave. Big Big desert that also contains death Valley

Baker is on the fringe of that and you pass through there on the way to vegas... I been out of the car at 120 and It was like walking into your oven... it took your breath away. Death Valley is near there and they get the 120s to 140s.

I spoke to a fellow here on BYC that has ducks and geese in Death valley. he says he has shade cloths out and lays out carpet which he keeps wet so they dont burn their feet.

but for all its bad press the desert is a stunningly visual place to live... My desert is considered high desert but it really isnt so high only at about 3000 feet. We get snow just a token.... we get wind lots of it. enough to put up personal wind mills for generating power to run a small well pump.

In the Philippines the temps have a very narrow range. The difference between night and day temps is greater than the difference between peak temps jan and july.

When my wife's sister's family came to the US in late June one year we decided to give them an experience you can only get in a few places in the world..

We left Las Vegas around 10 am. We drove into CA in Death Valley. The max temp while we were there was 122F (50C). After lunch we headed North East and spent the night in Mammoth. It was unseasonally cold and by morning it was 32F (0C). In less than 24 hours, we experienced a temp differential of 90F (50C).

We drove through Tioga Pass into Yosemit and they got to throw a snow ball.

Just as we were approaching the valley floor we saw a mamma black bear with 2 cubs rolling around in play.

been that way water wise for several years now... asking for water at a restaurant. Probably since the seventies.... right now we can only water lawns two days per week. when they tighten up more there will be specific days too... odd even house numbers...

No allowing water to run down the gutter
No washing of cars
No washing of sidewalks
No filling or draining of swimming pools.

You can cut water consumption big time by putting a bag of water in the toilet reservoir... if you have an old toilet system. or a brick.

Take military showers... I hate those... rinse to get wet turn the water off scrub with soap and rinse to get the soap out.

We use sixty gallons of water taking a regular shower.... a navy shower uses three.

This is pretty much what we had to do..so not looking forward to anther yr. like that. And, you've been doing this for yrs?
