The Old Folks Home

dude I only know is a bator from tsc. I can check the box tomorrow it's in the shed. It worked good last year. And now it's holding temp with the water bottles. But why do I only have one out of three chicks? All three were due to hatch today. Sigh

I had fried corn meal mush and sloppy eggs for breakfast, do you guys eat yellow corn meal mush, or just grits?

We eat grits. Grits are ground hominy. Hominy is corn that has been soaked in lye to remove the hard outer shell.

The fried corn bread is corn meal with about 1/4 self rising flour, salt and enough water to make a soft mixture. It is then spooned into hot oil and fried until it is brown. By the time the Grandchildren all come by there is seldom a piece is left. If there is the chickens will fight over it.

Anyone have a opinion on this one, our Tractor Supply has it for $129.
The Farm Innovators Pro Series Circulated Air Incubator is a complete incubator kit that comes with a built-in fan kit for air circulation and an automatic egg turner. It has a built-in Hygrometer for monitoring both temperature and humidity and an LED operating light to show when it's heating. A durable plastic outer shell protects the incubator and makes clean-up easier. Two large viewing windows allow for easy observation, and an additional thermometer to place inside the unit is included.

For that price I'd just buy a Brinsea. It looks like the LG with the air kit.

The snow you've gotten SCG is incredible! It's been many years since New England has experienced prolonged snowfall like what you're experiencing right now. Most impressive! I'm seriously hoping that we do get the snow forecast for us this coming weekend... We need the moisture. You may still have snow on the ground in pockets come June!

Okay. Old Folks, I've got one for you. My coop is on a slope and one end is dirt floored and the floor of the other end is about 1.5 feet off the ground. That space under the floored end is where the goats sleep. Inside that end are my brooders and chicks over three weeks old.

Today, DH found a dead hawk under the coop. UNDER it! The bird looks totally unmolested, is likely young, and has beautiful plumage. The dogs can't get into that area, the chickens (roosters) were all locked up. It just has me baffled. I am going to call the state in the morning and see if they want to test it. Weird, huh?

I'm no hawk expert, but I think it is/was a Cooper's Hawk.
