guineas have either  2 or three sounds

the guard dog cacophany and the basic single eek sounds are  shared by males and female but the "but crack" sound is just female.

To sex them you seperate a bird from the flock and listen for the sound of butt crack (the guinea noise - not dude's)

We alyays called that sound Pot Rack, close.

I have lived with no AC in Texas in the summer :D   I loved it.

I try to tell people that my mom grew up without AC down in super humid Texas, and she always interrupts me, saying that of course she had AC, you just take the top sheet and fluff it twice before you go to sleep.

I grew up with no air conditioning. When it was hot in the summer we would sleep withe our heads at the fopt of the bed which was near a window. We had a window fan which we ran like an exhaust fan and it pulled the relatively cool night air in through the windows . Thankfully we didn't have to wory about burglars.

I remember those days...in Florida.

How Sad!

Perchie and I can start complaining about the heat now though. We broke a record here for the day yesterday--It was something over 80 for us. The neighbors had the Air conditioner on. I bet most people in Main do not even have an Air conditioner....We toughed it out with fans at my house--I do not want to have 500.00 electric bills.

RON We,were in the 80s today. It is still pretty warm. It will be around 60 in the morning.

Diva I spent the coldest winter of my life in Rantoul Illinois at Chanute AFB. I was in Tech School and we fell out and formed up at 4:00 AM. We marched to chow and then to school and we were in our seats for class to start at 6 AM. That was until we had a little thaw in December and it warmed up enough to melt some of the snow and it refroze on the walks. After that we fell out and fell down all of the way to school.

Last night after dark, I took eight eggs that are due to hatch tomorrow out to the broody Ameraucana hen that has been trying to hatch three golf balls for two weeks. I went out this afternoon and found her in the adjacent nest box on THOSE golf balls.

I felt of the eggs and they were slightly warm, so I moved the hen back onto the eggs and crossed my fingers. I went back out just before dark and she was still on them. I'm going to be upset if those eggs don't hatch because that silly hen didn't know which nest was hers when she returned from her break.
