Not a lent thing per-se...... Orthodox Christians are ....uh....... uhm.... freaky odd..... but Orthodox Christians are kinda not known about.... weird, but anyway, here is a detailed explanation:
http://orthodoxwiki.org/Introduction_to_Orthodox_Christianity
And nope, we don't "give something up for Lent" like lots of christian religions, we have a traditional understanding of fasting, which means that during the time of Lent you are supposed to (as much as you are able, with understanding given to illness, or for kids, pregnant moms, very much NOT legalistic... you are supposed to discuss it with your spiritual father) but no meat, no fish, no milk or any kind of dairy, no eggs, no wine, and no oil for the entire Lentan period.
however, on weekends you may always have wine and oil... and then on a couple of feast days (Palm Sunday and when Archangel Gabriel comes to the Virgin Mary on March 25th) you get wine, oil, and fish.
Because of that, Easter (which we usually refer to as Pascha, as in right after the Jewish Passover, from the Hebrew word Pesach), is often a giant meat and bacon fest
