The Old Folks Home

Yes Sir it is. I hate losing any of them but the calf's are the worst.
We had cattle at our farm but we didn't live there. A Hereford bull got in and bred one of our Angus heifers. Herefords' calves are bigger than Angus calves. One weekend we couldn't find her. I found her dead in the woods with the dead calf partly out.

I love Wisteria.... and wanted it for my patio.... till I found out its poisonous...

Besides the patio needs to be rebuilt before I add any kind of climbing vine to it. I am thinking Grapes Now.

I have a big wisteria on both sides of the carriage house and they're in full bloom now.

Microchick, people don't necessarily know how old you are to receive SS. One of our bus drivers is taking at 62. Also people with certain disabilities can have it younger
I was toying with the idea of putting it off for a couple months after my birthday to see if I would bump up my monthly total. A month after my birthday I got a call from SS. The guy asked if I wanted to start it up. He did the math for me and said that if I skipped the first 2 months, it would take me 9 years to make up the difference. So I decided to start and get the backpay as well.

Bee hives all installed :) What a trip! They're awesome!
Very nice.

Might be risky dude... I hear they don't like loud motorized equipment (like riding lawnmowers) and in your speedo, you'd be a heckuva target

Not sure, but I believe you have AHB's there now as well... they are some MEAN bees! (AHB=Africanized Honey Bees).

But I guess with proper precautions, it's very do-able! Why not get a captcha hive box and try to get started out with a swarm? I truly hope to get a couple more hives established over the summer from swarms around here. Most states have a swarm hotline and if you contact them or the local bee club, and let them know you're interested, they can pair you with an experienced beekeep to go get one (or 2... or 3...).
I mow right past mine and they don't get too worked up.

I'm picking up 2 packages in a couple weeks.

@superchemicalgirl , you ought to contact the bee club where you took your course and see if you can get on the swarm list. Perfect opportunity to replace your deadout at minimum cost. and put all that drawn comb to work immediately!
I'm hanging a couple swarm traps this week.

People around here put electric fences around their hives. I guess bears really like honey too.
That's why bee suits are white.

I have almost entirely quit. I smoked 2 yesterday. Im really starting to be disgusted by the smell of them.

You're well on your way.

This is great. I have a son quitting. He is going on his second month without. Trying to quit drinking also. Hard to do when it's been a long time doing. Good for you bama. Literally. :)

We knew she was small and our Angus bull bred her we were trying to keep an eye on her thinking she might need help. But something was wrong we could not get the calf out. This is the second heffer we have lost from the calf's being to big. It is very distressing to me. My DH has had cows his whole life and I am still getting used to them.

Years ago, I read on BYC (maybe the predator thread) that electric fencing doesn't slow down BEARS, their thick fur is a great insulator. Besides the jolt may not be strong enough to knock them out of their shoes.

We never helped a cow and that was the only one we lost. It's weird because I see them getting help on TV all the time now.

Way to go Bama!!!!

I brought the mail in yesterday. DH opened the electric bill, and freaked out. It was $400.00. He began saying how we wouldn't be able to afford to live here if that was going to be the normal cost for electricity. I thought about it for a minute, and told him to check the bill again. There is no way it could be that high. All the light bulbs are energy efficient, we don't leave lights on when we leave a room, the AC is not set too cold, etc. He looked at it again. It included the final bill for our other place. (which he had already paid online, but the payment wasn't reflected in the bill they mailed due to timing) and the fees for transferring the account. Whew!

DH is bald. He told me this morning he thought a long time ago, I was hitting him in the head with my shoe while he was sleeping, and I broke his "hair grower". He was in a good mood, obviously.
