The Old Folks Home

Felix toe nail biting is only for the young and athletic. Once arthritis sets in - goodbye toenails. Can't even reach them to trim them. Did I say that out loud? Never mind

I resemble that... Mom started using a pair of dykes to trim hers... Long handles....

Perhaps Bama could assist you by keeping them gnawed to an appropriate length.

May 1st is approaching, and that's pretty much the only carnival like day of celebration in Finland. Traditionally we drink what is called "Sima" then. That would translate to mead, but it's actually made by fermenting lemon juice, sugar and a few raisins. We whipped up a batch of it yesterday, but we decided to go with a little twist, so we used limes instead of lemon, and also added some ginger to it, effectively making it ginger ale. Today we will bottle it. Has anyone else ever tried making ginger ale?

I mean the ginger ale, it's only kept in room temperature for about a day, and then in the fridge for about a week before it's done. Or you can rush it by bottling after a day and keeping the bottles in room temperature for a couple of days.

The mead should get considerably stronger though, I think they can go as high as 20%, so that's pretty potent.

I take it that SCG is starting tomatoes indoors? We plant our veggies outdoors in May..so not long now. Well, I could put the sunflower seeds out..I love growing those huge ones. I buy started tomatoes. Started veggies.

Yeah I have an indoor grow box to keep them warm, so I can get them started while the ground warms up.

Gotta clip the goat toes. I can do one of the goats myself, although I get pretty bruised, but Caramel is a disaster even with 2 of us working together. Her toes are bad, too.

Edited to add that yesterday I was supposed to move the turkeys into the styrobator hatcher. I turned the hatcher on in the morning and adjusted it every few hours. Keep in mind I used it last week to hatch chickens and I moved nothing. I could not get it above 96 degrees! Anyway, I adjusted it every few hours throughout the night and had it up to 97.5 this morning (on the bottom) so I went to grab the turkey eggs and put my thumb right into a beak of a hatching turkey. Oh well... they'll have to hatch in the Brinsea with the ducks still incubating.
