The Old Folks Home

Glad no one was hurt and no significant damage. That's gonna be a mess & lot of work to clean up, but you'll get a cord or two out of it and plenty of time for it to season before you'll be using it. Do you or someone close have a splitter? I guess you could rent one after you get it all cut to stove length.

Hi SCG

Got the treadle machine cleaned up and oiled and ready to go. Took me about 8 hours to take all the plates off and clean all the moving parts and remove much of the rust.

I am missing the shuttle (that the bobbin goes in) but I ordered a replacement. Can't wait for it to come so I can see if I can get it to work. The bobbin winder is really fun to play with. I have one old bobbin with some really old rotted thread on it that I was able to get back on the bobbin winder I removed and cleaned and it appears I put it back on correctly!

Our splitter is DH with an axe. My brother has already started to clear it out and has cut enough for me to see the house from beneath it.

I am jealous. I have wanted one for years. Momma had one but someone got it. They possibly sold it. My older brother got one. Low tech and easy to use. I have looked for one.

Look daily on your local craigslist and look locally on ebay. There's a head I'm looking at right now on our craigslist that appears to be in better shape than the one I currently have (for the most part) and has the Sphinx decals. They're only asking 35$ for it. I am contemplating offering 20$ to use it for parts or clean it up and use that one in my cabinet as it appears nicer.

I will be deciding what I'm going to make on it. I would like to make a quilt using just the treadle. I can't make anything too fancy as it doesn't backstitch and only does straight stitching, but I'm sure I can manage something.

SCG You did a great job on that machine, my grandma's looked just like it. She used to be a seamstress , I wish I had learned something from her. Even by hand she did tiny, precise, stitches.

I know my mom dumped the machine before we moved 45 years ago. But, I don't think she sold it, probably just put out for garbage.

Well, I did it..we did it. I finally made it up to the canyon that I like for hiking. Very simple trail. Not too tough, and, the temp was just right. Only close to 80 this morning when we headed up. Here are a few photos. I wanted to get my Golden R. up there. I've gotten photos of all of the Golden's that I've owned now. This is my first female. I love me a Golden R.!

LOL..this man of mine never had much to do with our dogs
when he was working, but now since retirement, he just loves
them. We both do, and they love us back. Of course, they
are dogs, such loyal little critters.

Heading back down.

He really DOES love the dog Cynthia. She looks like she was having a very good time herself. I think I'm the only dog kisser in the family, and on occasion kiss strange dogs too , like Bella next door and Wolfgang, who was the sweetest, nicest pit bull that was ever whelped. Oh oh, I just kissed and telled -

What a lovely hike! I'm jealous that you have that near you.

We didn't even hit 70 today as our high...
