The Old Folks Home

How many Southern churches have you sung in, Ron? Trust me, it don't necessarily follow. I've even sung in choirs with folks that you'd never, ever want to hear sing a solo.

But of course, if Alaskan wants to give us a demonstration, and let us judge for ourselves . . . .

I have only sung in California Baptist churches--Some just move their mouth and do not really sing..Good point...we should judge for ourselves!

Unfortunately... I only sing decent, but not terrible, as no one has ever asked me to move my mouth and not let any sound come out....

I ran into the grandma Kilcher in the feed store... And we got to talking... And now I don't remember what we sang....

I think it was "du, du, liegst mir ihm Hertzen"

And why not sing in the store? It is one of the first stores in Homer, maybe the oldest still operating place..... Lots of chatting happens there.

That's funny to me. In the '60's, my dad somehow acquired a recording of some live performances at an Oktoberfest celebration. There was at least one yodeler, some bell-ringers, an "oompah" band, etc. One song that was performed was the one you mentioned, and you could hear the entire audience singing along. In my mind, that song is filed away as, "Dad's German Beer-drinking Music" (which is really odd, since my dad, being a Methodist minister, doesn't drink . . . . ):idunno

Figured I would update... I'm in mourning my beloved penny got taken by bandits, though we have now cleared out 2 kits and 2 adults... still working on clearing them all out. Poor penny gee I miss her she was my lap chicken. First duke now penny I'm down to about 30 chickens. And 4 turkeys, they don't seem to take the Peking ducks. Wish for a end to the bandits. Also got a chicken it what I think is bumble foot. This just never seems to end. Yes that was penny in the photo with me.

I used to sing in a church choir. I got asked to just mouth the words.

Shortly after that I stopped attending church and have never resumed the practice.

Sorry I let out that piece of info Alaskan Lol!
I think it was on Alaskan's awesome blog I read Homer, where did I hear of that town before? Googled it, wiki mentioned it was the hometown of the crazy Kilcher's. Hey Alaskan do you know the Kilcher's? Yup! I think Alaskan said they square dance together?
I would so love to meet Jewel's father. (And jewel also lol) There is a cool YouTube video of them both singing and yoddling together that is super funny. The song was named after his friend 'Yo' I think?
