The Old Folks Home

Hard to find shops and shop owners like that anymore. Grats on a great find! However, I had to say "ouch" when you said "The repair man was ancient, the shop was ancient and I felt like I had gone back in time to 1970." I was in high school then

Guess that pretty much makes me pre-historic

He has been in business almost 50 years and his hearing aids were screaming.

I guess I could have said "felt like I was in the 1860's" as easily as the 1970's. Most of the shop felt like 1970 but one corner was definitely 1860's.

I love old machines! I am sure I eould never use it, but I would like one since they remind me of my grandmother..... She never upgraded, except to make the old one electric, so her feet wouldn't have to pump/peddle.

Ron has the recipe answer for everything!

My sewing machine's been acting up. There is one certified Singer repair shop in the state and it's 90 minutes south of me. However, there's a guy with a sign "Sewing Machine Repair" about 15 minutes from me. I decided to take the risk and go there. When I walked in I was really unsure of my decision. The repair man was ancient, the shop was ancient and I felt like I had gone back in time to 1970. The shop was packed with old machines, old parts, notions and dust. The owner went to work immediately on my machine and within an hour had determined that it was likely not my machine, but was my walking foot causing the issue, and unfortunately he couldn't fix it. I spent the hour prowling around his shop looking at all the old machines and parts (and really enjoying it). I ended up purchasing a foot for my 1892 Singer treadle and if I come back with the part I need another of, he'll root through his jars and help me find what I need. What a phenomenal find! I've been trying to get parts for what I need off ebay, but many sellers don't know exactly what they're listing so often you buy something that doesn't fit. He was impressed with my knowledge of treadles and insisted at the end that because he couldn't fix my machine, he wouldn't charge me. I tried to give him 20$ for his time, but he refused. I am so glad I went in and am glad that places like this still exist. I hope the girls lay some eggs this week so when I go back for parts I can at least give him a dozen eggs.
How wonderful that you found his shop. I'll bet he would love some fresh eggs.

We got the RV home yesterday it was an all day affair again. But at least now it is home. There is so much to remember to operate the thing it's crazy how you think you can remember after they spend most of the day showing you, then you get home and cannot get the first thing to work!

We spent the morning reading the owners manuel just to turn on the AC!

Driving home 3 hrs. trip

Parked in the drive way for now. We have to move a fence to park it when we want it to go.
Love it! Miss ours. You know, you will have to take photos every time you go out in it. See where you've been.
