The Old Folks Home

Way back in the dark ages, (back to the days of tick dipping dogs)  many of the beaglers would dip their brush pants in tick dip and then wear them in the field.  Until that is one guy developed penile cancer that resulted in the removal of the affected part.  Doctors attributed it to the prolonged exposure to the tick dip.    I'm old but not dead.

Was his name Bruce?

How could you do such a thing - installing a monster in their coop?
I know, right?

I buy sweet pie pumpkins. They usually have enough in each pumpkin to make two pies. They are pumpkins for pumpkin pies.

Our local grocery outlet carries them each October.
The Lowe's store had 3 sizes. Jack o lantern size, sweet pie size and the little decorative ones. I bought a bag of the little ones and one of each other size. When I went back, they were half price so I bought 3 more pie pumpkins.

WOW

Sat. night one of my roosters kept calling not a crow but hollering like he does when he wants something. So I woke DH up and told him to go find out what was going on. He was not happy but went to see. He came back in to get the bb gun it seems a rat going across the roof of the pen was worrying him. So DH shot at him several times trying to get him but kept missing. DH finally came back to bed and about an hour later the dumb rooster started again! I went back to sleep. It's pretty bad when they wake you up for nothing. It reminded me of the boy that cried wolf.

I listed the 7 roosters for sale on FB.

The only rooster I can hear is one in a pen on the back patio fattening on grain and milk.
I wish I could hear them. I haven't used the baby monitor in a while. I need to put it back out there.
I've been digging a trench with the help of my son and one of his friends. It is going to one of the chicken coops to lay some conduit and run electricity. I ran electric to the breeder complex a couple years ago but haven't connected the head end because I was waiting to get this run finished. I'll have to drill through the brick wall of my carriage house to bring the electric to my runs.
I hope to have 7 housing units wired. The 8th one doesn't need it. If I can get this done in the next few weeks I'll have warm circulated water during freezing weather.
It will also be a pleasure to do away with the extension cords all over the yard. And have actual light switches in coops rather than plugging lights in or pressing buttons on the fluorescent starters to get light.
Wish me luck.

I violated a few rules of beekeeping.
One is never go into the hive without a veil.
Also, one should always use a smoker.
You definitely don't want to get stung in late summer or fall when the venom is much more potent.
I had been in the hive the day before with no problems and all I wanted to do was add a feeder to the top so I wasn't planning on disturbing them but they were pretty agitated.

Ready for a real ugly picture?
