The Old Folks Home

Wisher, thank you for all of that.

You and I think alike on many things.

Merry Christmas to everyone on the old folks home!!!!! All the prepwork is done. The pies are made, the ornaments are made, the turkey is brining, presents are under the tree. Now for the hard part, waiting for everyone to get up! Cowboys colors for DH and of course the other is for my granddaughter. We have been having a wonderful visit with DD and her family. Went out and got a little sled to pull her around in. She wasn't too sure about it but it was cold and a little windy. Today it is snowing a bit so not sure if we will get a chance to try again.
I remember my first winter with a kid and snow.... The baby sled we got was a dud. You stuck the baby in the sled, strapped him in, and then drug it behind you with a rope..... I think that the hope was to achieve a nice walk outside. However, that sled loved to topple over and smash my baby's head on the snow. I am a slow learner....so I think it took three times of the baby's face being smashed in snow before I realized that there was no way for me to pull that sled in a "safe" non-baby-mangling way. Yep, sad.... It took him awhile after that to decide that sledding was something that could be fun, and shouldn't be cried about- go figure. As to the religion stuff and religious book reading.... I am Orthodox, and in the Christmas church services we read a bunch of the old testament passages that talk about the coming of Christ, and then we read oodles of epistles talking about the birth of Christ, and we of course also read the Gospel readings about the birth of Christ. Luckily we get to sit during Epistle and Old Testament readings. We stand during Gospel readings. It was pretty nice, my youngest is FINALLY old enough, that he could be an altar server. It was pretty cool, the four youngest were altar servers, and the eldest did the Semantron (a handheld version, most of the ones on youtube are the big hanging ones), the bell ringing, and the swinging of the chandelier.

Thank you for sharing, Wisher. I am an atheist but absolutely fascinated by religion and ritual.

My Catholic boss bought me a book entitled "What Happens After I Die: Jewish View of Life After Death" for Christmas this year. I have gotten a few chapters into it so far. I'm glad that most people that know me absolutely respect my (lack of) beliefs, as I do their beliefs. In my opinion there's no reason to become offended if someone believes something different or wishes me a merry/happy whatever. I have spent a few of my Sundays at a service out of respect for the person I was visiting. I used it as a chance to learn something. Even if I don't believe in it it doesn't mean there's not a rich history there to appreciate.

I became pretty fascinated with the Mormon story after visiting out west with Dsqard a few times but still haven't read any of the Book of Mormon or any books on Mormonism. I was hoping to get one last time the missionaries called but they wanted to visit, too, and I didn't want to waste their time. I can find out much of it online from various sources.

Ah... Nothing like a snow storm with horizontally blowing snow... And two windows wide open to clear out the smoke since the wood stove is still busted.

Dang... The heat activated fan isn't moving yet...l wonder if the fire died out.

So glad we are above zero.

At best I am Agnostic... I am fascinated by all religions. their history and origins. My son is leaning toward Atheism. He probabaly knows more about more religions than I.

Just bid another brain cell adieu, I ruined two checks trying to spell out 50. Finally went to google and asked "how to spell 50 in English." Oh the shame of it all. F I F T Y, why didn't I think of that?

Think I need yet another nap.

Ninety always gets me.

Last week the guy came and said it was "One Oh Five." I started to write a check out for "One-Oh-Five" before I realized I had to actually spell out hundred and had to start over.

You're in good company, dear.

Just got home from the Asian Cafe. I am thankful they are open on Christmas.
