!) I had four out and nothing else pipped, when I went to bed. I was worried that that was all I was going to get. I woke up to two more out and one more almost done zipping. I guess they are going to take turns so each gets it's moment in the spotlight. I only have one RIR chick out. It hatched from a tiny pullet egg. It was almost a large wind egg, but not quite. It was one of the first out and is a tenacious little thing. I may have to pull it out as it runs around pecking at the umbi stumps of all the others.....the little cuss.

You know you are an old timer when you look forward to springing forward for DST all winter and dread falling back all summer.

How is it that "Standard Time" is 4 months and "Daylight Savings Time" is 8 months? Seems to me it should be "Standard Time" from early March to early November (*) since that period is twice as long as the "other" period which should be called "Daylight Wasting Time".

Or we could just get rid of it all together. It just screws people up twice a year and it isn't just a one night hit each time. Just as I was starting to wake up with the sun last week, BOOM still dark for another hour, turn on the lights. And come November, boom, sun goes down at 4:30 instead of 5:30, turn on the lights. Presumably the "value" is in not using incandescent lights quite as much at night. But LEDs and CFLs (which I won't buy now that we have LEDs) use SO much less electricity than equivalent incandescents, there is no energy saving at all with other energy using devices being used more in the "extra daylight" periods.

* Used to be April through Oct. Thanks (NOT!) GWB and Republican majority Congress for the "extra" month of daylight.

Here you go!

And this!

There are LOTS of ways to lace shoes.

Eating is good... Because passing out in a pile of chicken poop is bad.

Agreed. Been on a liquid or mostly-liquid diet for too long, now. I am hallucinating food.

Wanted to get a good night's sleep last night as I had a heart ultrasound scheduled for 11am today. went to bed at 11, still awake at 2 so got up, back to bed at 4:30ish, maybe got 2 hours sleep. Scheduled appt went well, the tech said everything looked fine. should hear from the cardiologist at some point if there's some issue, doubt I'll hear anything if all is well... It is the VA after all (no offense SCG!). So I guess I'm gonna live a while longer yet. Sure aint from clean living...

Hope your guinea hen has sucked her butt back in and is doing what good guineas do.

Technically if all's well you should get a letter in the mail confirming that. If you just get crickets you should call. I don't take offense... I know bad things happen at every hospital, VA or civilian. I do the best job I can possibly do and try my best to make a difference in my little universe.

Edited to add: the Preparation-G (for guinea butt not human butt) will have to wait until this evening. I neglected to think about the covert nature of the guinea-heinie. Their butts slope down, and feathers cover the vent. I had all 4 pearl guineas out and about. No one appeared more sick or more stupid than the rest of the mixed guinea flock. I was unable to get any vent-sightings. I noticed last night because the guinea was on the roost. Will have to wait another 2 hours for roosting time. I do have to admit that after 48 hours I put the two fighting roosters back together, and they immediately resumed their spat. The guineas all attempted to intervene to break the fight up. I like them more and more each day.

The guineas sound like a crazy bag of cats... Every second of the day. :lau

Chicks hatching now....

I think I have been cursed........... Someone asked to buy 10 standard sized Ameraucana... So how many have hatched? 1

My infertility rate for the standard Ams improved, but a number of the eggs died at different points of incubation.

I put in 6 Leghorn cross eggs... Two infertile, one pipped at the wrong end, and not quite all the way through, so died... Other three perfect and popped right out.

Bantam Ams also did much better. Some infertile there too... But 5 have already hatched, I think only one died in incubation.

Standard Ams, ... I think 16 eggs put into incubator.... 1 hatched. (Maybe 4 maybe eggs left for the standards  )

Al, can you have your chaplain do an incubator exorcism?

Totally possible! :gig

I did have the house blessed back in January... Maybe none of the Holy Water hit the incubator!

Actually, this last blessing, I didn't get him to bless the chickens, the coops, the barn, the tractor, and the plow truck.

:old That will larn me, not insisting on the full work up!

Alaskan, I swear I have not been letting my rabbits talk to your chickens! You know that I believe my rabbits put their heads together when I'm not around and ask each other, "how can we drive her crazy today," right?

SCG, we have a couple of cats that quarrel a lot, and we have another who just can't stand it. If Squeaky and Jumpy start yelling at each other, Oreo will come flying into the room and let 'em both have it. Whatever their issues with each other, nobody argues with the matriarch!

I think you need to remedy that, quick. Is there a patron saint of incubation?

I like Oreo! What a good kitty. I got home from work today and the "new" cat was in the very high cat tree (we have two trees) that has been the tree of BF's cat. There was a large tuft of that cats hair on the top of the tree. Evidently there was a scuffle, and my cat won the tree while we were at work. I'm wondering if everyone is going insane. The turkeys are being jerks, the roosters are being jerks, the cats are being jerks. Ah, spring.

Latestarter I am also happy that your test came out good.

Alsaskan I second Scg's motion to get your priest to come back out.

Scg sorry spring has such affects on all the critters. Hopefully they will calm down soon.
I hope you have good luck with your guinea hen and the Prep-G.

Hey Diva have you tried any new ice creams lately?

I had my first physical therapy appt. and I left in tears after being iced as they call if.
