The Old Folks Home

Deb, hope you weren't late!

SCG, it was NOT death by cheese!!! :ya :weee

:bow my boys rock!

The paneer is a kind of Indian cheese, but what the boys made ended up looking exactly like standard crumbled feta. They seasoned with salt, pepper, parsely, and dill.

The Ricotta is crazily actually Ricotta! :th they seasoned it like the one above.

I am so impressed! All they did was use old goat milk, heat it up, add some vinegar, and strain it. They took the whey that strained out, and recooked it at a higher temp, strained that, and tada! Ricotta!!! After the second straining, there wasn't actually all that much left over whey... Kids are thinking that what is left over, they will use to cook some rice.

Again, I am stuned! I was so sure the first try would be an epic fail, but both are actually tasty!!!!

I forgot the photos:

The ricotta pressed into a ball. Recotta actually means "recooked" since you use the left over whey, and cook it a second time at higher heat. The heat is high enough that most of the raw milk goodness, or the risk of the raw milk killing you is gone. :)

The feta. This was from the first heating of the milk, and the first straining. The feta you actually strain twice, and press.

I'm curious for some feedback here.
The following thread started as a meat bird discussion but changed on post 18 with a couple people that are convinced chickens lay 2 eggs a day.

I don't think the second poster got what you meant. I've had hens lay more than one a day also. That's NOT every single day on a regular basis, and not very often. And I'm sure the next day she shorted me, so averages out to one a day per hen anyway. I think the original commenter was, well, brown cows give chocolate milk also.....
IMHO of course, Lol!
