The Old Folks Home

My turkey girl wit the bad feet is back in the hospital. Yesterday when I went out to the coop I saw her feet were the most swollen I've ever seen them. I picked her up and could kinda see the bottom of a foot which had a large scab. I was able to pick it off very easily. Since she now had a big hole in her foot I had to bring her in. The other foot also had a huge scab and an underlying hard white scab under it that also pulled out and off easy. I think this is an improvement - last time we treated her she didn't really have a visible scab on the surface to pick or cut out. That's why we went with oral antibiotics only. We could feel something hard under her pad, which is why the swelling never fully went down, but couldn't get at it.

This truly is it for her, though. If she doesn't get better this time, she's culled.

For those of you looking into shipping eggs, check out "The Great Egg Shipping Experiment" thread. I haven't updated it lately and have actually modified my method a bit, but there is some interesting info there. For what it's worth, I have never had a box I shipped arrive in bad shape. I won't mark them at all unless the buyer insists.

Scg I hope this time is the fix it for her. The scabs sound like what ever it was has finally come to an end.

I hope that whatever has been causing this has worked its way to the surface, thus the scabs and "white part" that was internal...

I know you don't want to cull her... Hopefully this will be the final time for all this. Were you able to draw out the internal white part? Maybe calcification around the offending body that caused the bumble in the first place?

Diva, I'm surprised to hear of your agoraphobia - seems like you've got it in check though, since you tend to go to the movies and everything. Seen anything interesting lately? Looking forward to the Angry Birds movie? =P
