In that case, some of my chickens are getting plenty of (their own) protein

I was going to suggest canned mackerel... Like .69 a can (here) and I give a whole can to 6-8 birds in their trough as a treat.

Not sure how many there yet. At least two of 9 made it. Will move them tomorrow to safer area as all hens are in this pen.

Ok, for those that are selling their eggs..what do you sell a doz. for? I think I am low. But, I am in Utah County. I sell a doz. for 2.50. Going a bit lower than what they are going for in the store, their supposedly free range eggs.

I charge a bit more than regular eggs cost in the store... Because dude, they are way better! :old So $5 a dozen is the going rate for home grown eggs...more if the flock is fed all organic, no corn no soy.

And that is the standard rate... A few people charge $4, especially if they tend to have smaller eggs.

To my old faithful customers I still charge $3. New customers are $4. The guy that buys 7 doz every two weeks is at $4 and knows it's a steal. The guys at $3 are expecting me to raise it on them. They can't afford more so it will stay $3 for them. When I go onto the job site my truck is literally surrounded by the guys wanting them. More customers than the roach coach. :lau

I have more eggs than I can possibly use. I used to sell them, but didn't like the "feast or famine" cycles or trying to time worming with molt but not too close. It just became too much trouble. THEN I would take extra eggs to work to give away. People were thrilled to get them as long as I was giving them away, but one day I sent out an email saying I had some for sale and not one person bought any. I don't bother anymore. We eat what we want and the dogs get the rest. This is my countertop this morning.
