The Old Folks Home

I am not biased in anyway I have lots of favorites. But I think geography and where I live plays a large part of it. I enjoy a lot of Mexican food mostly Tex-Mex.

Huge fan of Mexican and South American dishes, especially Milanesa!

Next time I go to the Mexican market I will make note of what they have in the deli. Last time I think they actually had a goat dish that was quite tasty.

I grew up half German. So had lots of traditional dishes while my grandmother was still alive. I also grew up around a lot of Czech folks. Big fan of their Kolaches and koblanski. Sp? And of course growing up in a rule area, we many times eight foods most people would Not. Raccoon, rattlesnake, squirrel, possum, bull testicles I've also tried just about every type of bird local to our region. Most of our regionally local fish also.

Hey Bert, I'm learning German, do you speak it?

I will taste it all....   first of all to not offend but secondly because I know the oddest bits often times are wonderful tasting.   For instance Blood cake or Blood sausage...   I have had the cake in Pho...  Not a fan but I wont turn it down because I am certain there are good recipes out there for it.    I would love to give blood sausage a try as long as someone could make a good recommendation on which brand to buy...  Or if there was someone making it from scratch as in a party or potluck.

Now I have goats as pets but I would not turn down barbequed or stewed goat  and all the bits and piecs that can be cooked from it.

Blood sausage is called black pudding here. I loved it.

Baluts aren't that bad... a little salt and they tasted just like a boiled egg to me. same flavor and texture actually... I always taught my kids and their kids to try everything at least once. If you don't like it, fine, you don't have to eat it, but at least TRY it before saying "I don't like it". There are some things I wouldn't eat, just because... I'm no Andrew Zimmer. Maybe that's hypocritical, but sorry, it's all psychological. The first time I took the kids to a Japanese Steak house with the hibachi they were freaking... When it was all said and done they all ate everything put in front of them, and wanted more... despite starting out with I don't like it.
