The Old Folks Home

:he

Sent my almost 18 year old to spray paint the number 3 on a fuel oil tank......

He did a great one, looked at it, decided it looked wrong, crossed it out and did it again....backwards.

I wouldn't care except for the number of people that are gunna see that.

I asked him....huh? I didn't think I had noticed you having any number reversal issues... What is up with that? He said that he did but only rarely.... :barnie

So embarrassed.... -sigh- I will have to find some paint, get him to paint over the entire thing.... Try again

Oh *%#!!!!!!

My youngest just came in... Turns out that he had been hollering "help" from the barn loft...

We never heard him...

Neighbor (who walks by the now defaced fuel tank) heard him hollering and went to resque him.

He had been gathering fireweed, and had to take it to the loft where it needs to dry. On the way up his bag of fireweed hit the ladder end and shifted the ladder. He decided the ladder was now unstable, and wouldn't go down.....

So... He yelled "help"

Well.... I have no idea what my new label will be, and what all the neighbors will call me..... But I bet it is embarrassing. :barnie

Maybe your son is developing that eye issue where he sees things reversed. I forgot what that is called. An eye doctor would know what to do. Don't pick on him. I'm sure he is doing his best.

thank you Microchick, my mind doesn't work as well as it used to. Is that what they also call "lazy eye."

Dyslexia has to do with how the brain percieves visual data and its something that doesnt develop. I am somewhat dyslexic. When words or letters are written backwards or numbers I dont notice.... I also transpose numbers quite often. I once knew a woman who was so dyslexic she couldnt get her drivers license. and her doctor suggest she take horse back riding lessons to help her with it By the time she was done she not only knew how to ride but she could get her lisence.

Lazy eye is what used to be called Crossed eye. If caught at a young age they will put an eye patch on the non lazy eye to force the weaker one to function better.

Here is a test for children

wow I did not know it went into so many areas. I do know people who are severely dyslexic develope an excellent memory for things that are read aloud to them.

for what its worth riding lessons are excellent for isolating left and right cues and using your body to communicate with an animal who doesnt completely connect their left and right hemispheres. All using kenetic cues not visual or verbal.... Probably why this type of work is excellent for children with Autisim or learning disabilities.

He does have some very mild dyslexia issues... But his issues are more auditory processing issues, and maybe a bit of ADD.

I have a couple of kids who have more issues with number reversals, and for any of them, had I asked them to go spray paint a number three, I would have drawn a number three on their hand so that they would remember how to do it.

Just my eldest hasn't had reversal issues for maybe 8 years now.... So :idunno totally unexpected.

And actually, way back when I got horses, I got them for him. He took several years of horseback riding lessons when he was little. I am not sure how much they helped him. I am sure they did, but I couldn't tell.
