The Old Folks Home

Alaskan I have taken some to get stitches and found I could tape it better at home.

This is a little scrappy quilt I have been working on.
Wow I have s made two that where ragtime or inside out
but did not get the batting tied down great now it is sitting in a bag
waiting for me fix it

Alaskan, you just need to be firm with your kids. Tell them not to do that anymore.

The er would probably charge you 150 to superglue it.

Many years ago..... I took a kid to the ER, and they charged just over $1,000 to super glue it closed. :barnie

Never again.

I would have glued it closed.... But I was out! We looked all over....hemmed and hawed... And decided it wasn't worth the drive to town. It isn't too "gape-y" so the scar shouldn't be too bad, and anyway, it will be totally covered by hair.

diva, I'm guilty of being a night owl too. Always have been, when I could. Dh works nights, so that works in my favor too.

Yes, I remember reel to reels, and the big phonographs. Ours had the automatic arm, that would activate the spindle to drop a new record onto the plate, and then lower the arm onto the record. I did have a portable phonograph for personal use, that was about the size of a small suitcase. I had to change the records on it myself, and position the arm.

I applaud all of you with quilting talents. My sewing skills include iron-on tapes, and safety pins.

I only have 5 hens over 18 months
Then it's most likely the declining day length.

Now to have a fun time according to dsqard and scg
Find a trail that wants to kill you and own it.
I like the sign warning to turn back now if you don't have appropriate hiking boots.
My daughter heard about a beautiful beach on the other side of a forested area in Thailand where she was warned to wear sturdy shoes. She wore flip flops. Halfway down the trail there was a sheer 20' descent. She ripped her flip flops off and found about 80 pair of destroyed flip flops at the bottom of the hill.

I did not get into this on the production thread but will here.

Karen posted research that does not show this to be true. There was no benefit over regular feed with added pro biotics. Purina feed has pro biotics in it now too.

It is also not something everyone can do. I can't do it here since it is too hot most of the year. I did it for a while though.

So long as I see a reduction in feed consumption and still get just as many eggs and good growth I like it.
I get 17% layer mash from our local feed mill for $10, lower than any other feed around here, really adds up over time. In the winter, I don't bother with ferment, they don't eat froze concrete feed.
I used to feed Layena. TSC usually puts Purina on sale in the winter for only a dollar more than Dumor, had people tell me I'm wasting my dollar cause it's the same. I don't think so but could be wrong. Kinda hard to tell by just reading the label, they list ingredients and %s in a different way comparing them. I work in the food industry and when a company makes a store brand/generic brand, it usually but not always has a little something missing to make up for the cost difference. It could be the Dumor brand just lacks the prebiotics, probiotics and yeast, could be more. I think it's probably worth the extra dollar though. At the price I'm paying now though for that ground mash, nice looking stuff and fresh, it's like getting a free bag every two.

I keep a tube of EMT gel on hand. (Big improvement over the suture tape I used to use, less scarring or my dad's favorite use for duct tape) Stuff is meant for critters but gets used on both man and beast (and woman). Our nearest ER is so far away we would probably be healing by the time we got there anyway. Oh, and even when I totally messed up my ankle/leg, I dragged my backside down the steps and into the car (literally) and DH drove me to the hospital. Nobody around here waits for the volunteer emergency squad (or worse, the hospital ambulance) to get to them. There's a reason they're referred to as the body bag truck. That's usually all what's needed by the time they get to you. One downside of all our "privacy".

Eta; forgot to mention the full quart container of blood stop

I swear by that EMT gel, works wonders.

We have good ins, and I still use the red neck fix for cuts, butterfly tape , or piece of paper towel and electrical tape for fingers. Went to work twice this yr with electrical taped finger. Anyone tells you a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp knife never has used a razor sharp knife....

Last time I had stitches was from dropping a 12' 2x6 over my head right between the eyes, no way to attach tape and it would have looked stupid at work, looked stupid anyway ended up the next day with two black eyes.
Found out a few yrs latter people at work believed my joke, told them the DW threw a coffee cup at me, didn't know they thought I was serious...
