The Old Folks Home

Thank you ron. Did check in on her. Hope all is well. :)

We are getting snow! It's coming down like no other! (as the kids would say..I have a lot of teen grandchildren. lol )

So far I have 5 pips on 11 eggs, 3 or 4 that look like internal pips have happened and 2 that are just sitting there not doing much except thinking about it. DH plays momma hen and chick sounds that he found on YouTube whenever he walks past and I'm cluck cluck clucking urging them on.One little one cheeped so loud I heard it clear across our house. Like it was yelling LET ME OUT OF HERE NOW! I told it to get busy and start pecking.

I'm as tired as if I was doing all the work.

Oh yeah, definitely!

I have two hatched and a third zippingl

Cute little chipmunk fuzzy butt!

Right now I'm looking at a 'bator that is quickly running out of room. The second chick is sitting on top of the water reservoir cover and not moving from it's spot. At some point I' m going to have to make a snatch and grab for empty egg shells and make some room for the others. I figured I'd try to leave today's chicks in till morning if possible.

When will it be safe to tip the canopy enough to grab empties? Humidity is around 90 right now. I had to open a vent as it was creeping higher with the hatches.

Yep. I had to risk it and pull them. The chick in the picture was sitting on unhatched eggs with his head hooked over the thermometer

and the second chick was sitting on eggs and trying to crawl over the first chick. I saw a disaster in the making so I waited until the third finished hatching and carefully snaked my index finger in, hooked the shells and pulled them out. I managed to wiggle a couple of eggs into the new spots and convince the chick that hanging onto the thermometer wasn't a good idea.

End result, temp remained at 100 and humidity returned to 76%. Everybody is sleeping now. More eggs are pipped. Only a couple aren't showing any signs. One has a very large air cell so I'm guarded about that one.

Take them out when there are too many or when they are fluffed. Brinsea incubators recover quickly so as long as the top is not off too often or for too long you will be fine!

Thanks Ron. I have three hatched right now and three more with large pips. Two have small pipps and the other three aren't doing much. I'm hoping to move the first three out when the two that are showing good pips zip.

So far I love the little Brinsea except for the difficulty in filling that silly water reservoir.

I have been watching this off and on..is she ever going to have that baby?  What are those things she is having..Braxton Hicks??   You have to wonder .. when will they start to worry.  Didn't know it took them so long, especially when she is having so many contractions...and for a while now, pretty close together.  Poor thing!

I haven't been online in last couple days, has it hatched yet!?
