The Old Folks Home

We are experimenting with growing veggies from kitchen scraps.

400

The bottom two are celery and the top is romaine lettuce. They are finally getting roots so as soon as the weather permits they are going out to Maddy's garden.

I agree.

Well, crap.

I'm not planning to go to any shows or bring in any new birds. All my chicks are hatched on premises and there are no chicken facilities anywhere near us, only back yard flocks. The migratory traffic has lightened up considerably over the past two weeks and hopefully history will not repeat itself.

All we can do is be safe, think smart and pray, everyone, that the weather turns warm and stays warm.
Migration just getting started up here. None of the still water is even open yet but the rivers are breaking up and even the lakes to our south are open early so if it's going to spread we'll know soon. (one of the Jenny O factory farms hit was well south and west of us along the Mississippi.)

not out here in Washington state unless it is found out here
and we stay close to home.
Tried to get to the article the page would not load for me
If you are on FB, go to the Chicken Whisperer's page. He's actually the official poultry spokesman for APHIS (among other titles)

Yeah, probably the plants that got hit along the eastern Missouri state line back in 15. We are only three counties west of the Mississippi so we were holding our breath mainly because the Ol' Miss is one of the major flight paths for migratory water fowl.

I have the feeling that this is going to become an annual pain in poultry owner's backsides. and the only thing that is going to stop it is a proven and effective vaccine for poultry first and then for humans.

Nice deb! 100! Love that Kenney Chesney song. You're gramma looks unbelievably so much like my gramma, except she was over six foot and 200lbs of mean :-) (in her older prime before she withered away) I loved her mean, all loud hollar and no bite. I'll try to post a couple pics tomorrow, beat now. The resemblance is uncanny :-) Good to know you have some genes in you for longevity. Same here, for the women....men seem to die young...some of them anyway.

Just spent two hrs shoveling out our mailbox in the dark, know I ain't going to want to tomorrow. Four foot drift turned in to five ended up over my six plus head...it was a battle but I think I won...
Hopefully we get mail tomorrow, been a couple days. Mail was actually canceled yesterday!? I thought nothing stopped the mail Lol! Hopefully I can get the driveway cleared tomorrow, no BIL showed up today, guess they're battling it themselves still Lol!
Kids have a three hr delay tomorrow, probably get cancelled again, heard they ain't even found the front door to the school yet...woohoo!
Heard a funny story, guy retires, packs his car up and straps a snow shovel to the roof. Someone asks why he strapped the snow shovel on his roof. 'Figure I'll keep driving until someone asks what it is? And then that's where I'll be living!'...Lol!

Dang little heatherns!! :old
My first post here I hope I'm old enough I'm 57 years old and I'm a little overwhelmed on as to what some talk about with chickens but getting the hang of it or at least the jest! I was raised on a farm and it was up to the hens as to how many offspring we would have and as how many eggs we gathered, nowadays it's what kind of bird and hybrid production of eggs. Still the home made eggs out do any store bought egg in my book just wish people would understand chickens run free but noooooo dogs do nowadays and if they kill your birds that are on your land and forced to be put up it's all good but touch that dog and you go to jail! Sorry for my ranting
