The Old Folks Home

My dream car in high school was a 55 chevy with a hurst shifter.... and a ram scoop out of the hood. Drag racing was hot then.... My dad Raced Motorcycles at Bonneville salt flats for fun....before he met mom.

Here Carlesbad Raceway was the place to go... Its gone now but I got to go when I was twenty six... got pit passes got to see everything from Rails to Funny Cars and finally the motorcycles.....Those guys were lunitics...

I never raced though.... Dad did teach me how to corner and come out of a slide... saved my life at least once.

The old dragon dragsters used to watch them all the time

Oh no they don't I had a 68 440 Cornett sweet ride 4door but would fly!! My mom had the roadrunner she bought it after my dad died I was supposed to get it when I was 17 but she sold it two weeks before my birthday she ask me about 10 years later if she could buy me a car I said yes but it will cost about 150,000.00 she ask what kind I f car well I said a roadrunner black with a black vinyl top she got mad and didn't believe they were worth that much well they were!!
I had a 70 Camaro 70 chevell ss396 and a 73 formula 400 oh and a 73 vega lol with a 327 4 speed

Got lucky and caught a buddy of mine who moved to Tallahassee at his house he's trying to sell up here last winter. Just was driving by and saw him so turned around to say hi. Got to help him load his 2 door '68 440 Coronet, took me on one side and his uncle on the other with bars holding up the exhaust to get the car on the trailer. Car is rough but solid. Was awesome watching him whip it around in the snow, that motor sounded like a beast. He had two but the other was a small block, sold it on eBay for quite a bit to someone wanting it for a super bee clone.

I was trying to see if there was a breed standard for mini in height but the standard doesn't call for a specific height. I would say around 14" at the shoulder and about 30-40 pounds maybe a little smaller. Sid (the puppy we got four years ago) is a toy and stands about 12" at the shoulder and is about 20lbs although he is currently on a diet because he should only weigh about 15lbs. DH seems to think they need a lot of food. I am working with him to understand the small dogs only need a cup of food a day. DH is so bonding with this puppy. Not sure who is more in love with her.
BTW we were looking into adopting either a puppy or a young dog but with what the rescue groups now charge as "adoption fees" I figured I might as well just get the breed I wanted from a reputable local breeder and that is how we wound up with Bear. It's been a long time since we adopted Blondie and wow adoption fees are astronomical these days. I don't know how the rescue groups are adopting any dogs. I found fees from $350 to $500. I understand shelters are not cheap to run and that money pays for a lot of food and such but many of the "shelters" don't even have a building. They rely on foster "parents" to care for the dogs while they are waiting for adoption. While that is a better situation for the dogs, I cannot believe that increases your operating costs. And the application process is worse than applying for a loan for goodness sake. I have a fenced back yard and a history of having companion dogs (including responsibly altering all of them) and I felt like some kind of criminal filling out the paperwork to adopt a puppy. My cousin's daughter went to adopt a puppy and was told she couldn't have a puppy because she has two small children at home. What? I understand being careful and trying not to send a dog home with a family where the dog winds up coming back to the shelter but wow. She has adopted two cats and they are doing wonderfully. They have their own home and plenty of property. All I could think is that the pendulum has completely swung the other direction. OK off my soapbox now

@Cynthia12 did you happen to get any of those naked neck hatching eggs from people on here from 'DesertChic' ?
Her husband has one I those old Panteras. One of the most awesomeist cars ever built.
Saw one on eBay when we first got a computer 6-8 or so yrs ago that needed a lot of work and had a bad motor for $15,000, haven't seen a fixer upper since. Wish I could have afforded it, things are regularly selling for up to six figures restored now.

@dsqard we got our mountain cur pup from a no kill shelter shipped up from Tennessee (I don't agree with no kill shelters  )
Wanted a dog, my boxer died and we were moving and I don't sleep good without a dog in the house, and couldn't find any pups even mixes at the time cheap, even mutts were $$.
Cost us $350!! for what they called a boxer mastiff mix mutt which after he grew up he most certainly was not Lol!
We were also told online that the pup was a female, they didn't get that right either.
They had when you walked into the place a old beagle looking dog with a broken leg in a cage and were asking for donations to get it fixed...

Agree about the "mutts" costing dearly now. Everything is a "designer" breed (which really transmits into at best a crossbreed if not true mutt) and silly expensive. I cannot support that at all since it encourages backyard breeding and puppy mills. Its kind of sad because I have owned many mutts but I won't pay that much for one because of the behaviors paying that encourages. :-(

I am a paper or pure breed snob.i seen a lot of shady things go on with mixes. Lots of pitbull mixes. Before we bought our house people were mixing them to be able to have them in rental properties where they were allowed because they weren't "pitbull". That being said our family ran a UKC kennel for over 45 years. Sometimes it's the love of the breed not the cash. Many times I watched my father sell a puppy to a young boy for just the change he had in his pocket, a hand shake and a promise. It happens when you know it's right. That being said no small dogs for me nope nope nope. Standard yes no smaller. Perhaps a terrier but that's pushing it. The breeder I buy from should be prepared for me to ask about back lines up to 5 generations. And see the parents and their papers. At the moment I have a Bengal cat and a domestic short hair. Bengal has tica papers and I still talk to his breeder.
But im not against mutt chickens.
