mom did her own.... just takes a good set of clippers and a brush.... Feet and face are the most important and the most easy to hurt em.

Back in the sixties shed get fifty bucks a pup. dont know the equivalents these days. Shed do the puppy cut.... Oh and she did her own tail docking. I had to help with that one.....

dew claws at 2 or 3 days was easy . see I had the old breeders mind didn't want a pet
wanted to be able to do something with them also.

I had Mini Schnauzers 20 years ago and took them to a professional groomer. Those two dogs had never had a hand raised to them, but one day I decided to try to touch up the little male's eyebrows. When I reached to take his muzzle in hand, he ducked and cowered. That told me everything. He didn't have a mean bone in his body. Loved everyone. He was just a sweetie. I remember dropping the scissor taking his little face in my hands and asking him "Who hit you? Never mind, I know." The only place they went was to the groomer or the vet and they had been groomed a few weeks earlier. It was the last time they went to a groomer. I read books, bought my own clipper kit and went to work. I learned real fast that the only difference between a good hair cut and a bad one is 8 weeks. I must have done okay because the neighbors swore I was still taking them to be groomed.

Dogs don't have to talk to tell you what's going on. All you have to do is watch them and listen with your heart.

no groomer that ever worked under me would be aloud to hit and would never groom again
usually we would gently hold the muzzle with one had scissor with the other talking to the dog works on most

Yep, that's the way I taught myself to do it also. It was my own fault. I had been taking them to a great groomer who lived just a short distance from where I was living at the time. When I moved I needed to find somebody closer. I should have driven the extra miles and not changed groomers. Most are kind, gently people who loved dogs. The original groomer had a 'play area' for the clients and they would have 30 dogs turned loose in this huge room where they groomed. They were all playing and having a great time, waiting for a turn to have a dog trimmed out of all their hair. All shapes and sizes. It was a remarkable thing to see. Then you run into one who shouldn't even be allowed to own a clipper let alone be left alone with a dog.

I actually thought about going to grooming school and becoming licensed. I really enjoyed doing it. I finally decided that it would be a lot like working on a pediatric unit where the little sick kids were for the most part, great. It was the parents you had to run and hide from.

I was never a big dog fancier but I look for a dog that is intelligent quiet and I feel is a great dog my instincts have never failed me yet! I have had some of the best mutt dogs that lived long lives and had no issues as for health except to get a case of poisoning because of my stupidity that dog saved my life a mutt but he was a hell of a friend!

This is Razz. He's almost 2 now. He's sweet as pie, and he never bothers the chicks when we have the brooder in the living room, though he will go stick his nose in with them if they're peeping to much. He gets worried. But he's way hyper and would rather be outside barking or chasing a ball until we are exhausted. He has his own fenced area to run in.

His goofy smile.

Looks a lot like my friends Catahoula, same color but his had no white just straight yellow/blonde whatever. Yours looks like it may have some of the cool 'calico/spots/stripping' though??
My Harley, only pic I have access to with a broken computer and phone and on a new one, may have shared this one before

definitely not a boxer mastiff mix Lol!
Edit to add, "gets worried. But he's way hyper and would rather be outside barking or chasing a ball until we are exhausted"...
Gets worried, yup, always seems to be intuned to whatever is going on, super involved, doesn't rest or let his guard down ever, think he's sleeping, next second in your face.
Super hyperactivity... And runs like a grey hound.

He has spots. Big ones little ones. I keep threatening to play connect the dots but he just licks my face and shoots out the dog door.
