I on the other hand, am almost praying for a freeze just to firm up the mud we have going on. This is the first year in many when I truly understand the true definition of 'Muck Boots'. The coop is dry and warm but the run would probably qualify for disaster due to water status thanks to the 4+ days of steady rain. Today has been dry and tomorrow is supposed to be dry but then another three days of rain so things aren't even going to have a chance to think about drying out. The chickens seem to be enjoying it for the most part. At least the Welsummers are. They just trot around snatching up worms. The Buff Orpingtons are staying high and dry. I think they made that decision after one of the roosters mounted a hen to mate and crammed her head into the mud. I rescued her, they all ran inside and there they have stayed.

The only thing that keeps me really wishing for a freeze is my 6 peach trees which are in full bloom. I haven't had a surviving crop from them since they were planted due to late freezes. They are blooming early and our last freeze is usually the middle of April so it could still happen.

Alaskan. I came to realize that it takes a special breed of person to survive Alaska. Let alone survive an Alaskan winter. I salute you and your fellow Alaskans.

-- oh MY! a line from the Wizard of Oz? Once again, I salute anybody who lives in the shadow of two super volcanoes. All we have to worry about in the midwest is when Mother Nature throws a fit and we have either a blizzard, a tornado, a flood or a severe thunderstorm. Then she can really get her nose in the air at us and the New Madrid Fault can act up. Still...minor stuff in comparison.

Stay dry, safe and warm everyone. Looks like we are in for a bumpy spring.

We are getting wind up to 45mph today. It has caused some big rig accidents on I-5 over the Yolo Bypass and lots of other problems!

The drivers are very Silly here. They will slow down for rain and wind but will speed through standing water. In the Valley, they do not understand that bridges can ice up on cold mornings and speed over them even changing lanes!

Lots of crashes at times like this.

Thankfully we are all stay at homers retired disabled 3 We do not go i-5 much
there is little known Jackson highway we drive as in the winter month until like
June 7 is closed because of snow, Morton 10 miles from us can have 2 or 3 ft of snow Mossyrock

I even love two feet of mud in my chicken run that threatens to suck my muck boots off when I fill the feeder. I am beginning to wonder if chickens can get bogged down like cows. Seriously!

No volcanoes in the back yard, no 3 foot snowfalls in the winter. Of course it does get to 110 in the shade at times in the summer, and just about everything in the state either bites, stings, is poisonous or gives you a rash, but the about the only crazy drivers we have around us are the Amish buggies and the ATVs looking for a section of ungraveled road to ride on....hey, if you want mud, there's always my chicken run!

The next 6 days are all calling for rain with the exception of tomorrow and Monday night.
