One of the first things that impressed me about Missouri was how they react to winter storm warnings. This January we had our first real storm (ice) and headed to the nearest city. They were calling for the weather to start later on in the afternoon and by noon, MODOT had all of their snow equipment out and stationed on the shoulder of i-36, lights flashing, ready to roll. That's not the first time we have seen that either. They keep the interstates clear, which is good. But we live 7 miles from town and 3+ miles from the nearest blacktop, all gravel. It's amazing how many big city people don't understand the concept of 'no, we can't get to town' even when the blacktops are mostly clear.
