The Old Folks Home

Yep, it's amazing what some garages concept of 'snow tires' is. DH finally got tired of it, went on line and bought aggressive tread snow tires. We have mud like we do now, snow, slush and when it is dry, gravel that we drive on. 'All season' tires just won't cut it. He got the tires, took the cars into the local garage and had them mounted. Amazing what a difference it makes.

Staying dry and out of the mud, that is my plans for this weekend. We have to go into town, mud and muck or not on the roads and buy groceries, then it's home again. Today is moving day for my almost 5 week olds. Momma Welsummer is probably going to have a cow.

Snowing here, ground covered again but supposed to quit.
Most of the deep snow gone with the rain yesterday. Saw some drowned rats playing in the rain yesterday

Well none of my seeds had sprouted... guess it wasn't warm enough. Turned on the seedling heat pad and put the baggies on it.

Now I guess I'll go sew. I got that cardinal bound the other day, not sure what I'm going to do with it, yet.

Beer can your poor chickens do look like drowned rats. Poor things.

Microchick good luck with your momma and chicks moving. I hope it goes smooth.

I had started some seeds way to early not knowing it was going to take so long to get the garden put together. Now most have died waiting.
Hopefully the tomatoes I started a few weeks ago will stay alive till then.

I'm going to prom in a few minutes! lol, my husband is a teacher and has to go work it, so I'm going to go and hang out. Standing around watching the outfits the teens are wearing for 3 hours is strangely entertaining... And the cars that they get dropped off in are NICE too...

Have fun Kusanar.

I have had a rabbit in the stew pot for hours. Now to debone it and get the meat and veggies in the pot.
I brined it all day yesterday and over night. I love some rabbit stew!

I have pintos in the crockpot. Feeling like I'm finally getting over this flu crud. Meanwhile hubby and Draven are out hiking. Gotta earn those Scout badges. He got signal a bit ago and sent some pics.

Last year at this time I was sitting at a bull sale. It was a long, painful day. Thank god we got a bull last year. We've been all over the globe this past week to buy farm equipment and cattle stuff and I can hardly move. Waiting for meds to kick in so I can get supper on and feed the flock. I'm sure the girls are wondering what happened to me even though I let them out. I can hear the guineas yelling their heads off.

On a happy note, we did get the piece of machinery we drove 3.5 hours away to get. I think I'd of screamed if we didn't get it.

My goal is to get supper on, feed the chickens and likely get ready to go to the show "Lego Batman" It looks too hilarious to miss. I think I can manage to sit. DH is taking the boy in anyway.

Tomorrow hopefully I can get up, feed the chickens (in the morning in good time) and get my hatching eggs in.

If I can get all that done...it'll be amazing.

On happy note #2, all the calves being born are strong, vigorous and a lovely small size. Apparently they are also quite docile and nice to work with the reds being a bit quieter than the blacks, which is exactly like the fathers. Not a calf pulled yet and haven't had to attend a calving other than the premature twins that were born at the start of calving in the cold weather.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about...lol.

Crap...forgot to ask... Does anyone ever notice certain hens that have more egg imperfections than other hens? I think I'm seeing that.

I'm just in the process of selecting replacement eating egg stock on this merit (among many others) for myself.
