The Old Folks Home

Meet Oliver, my little OEGB cockerel. An Alpha rooster in his own mind!

He's a handsome little rascal. We have Seramas around here - amazing how much personality can be crammed into such a small package, isn't it?

Tech support found a few problems and fixed them for me. Thank goodness wild blue does it for free!

Glad you got that sorted, chicka. I find that sort of thing eerie enough when my son does it from another room (even with permission); thinking a stranger that had no business in my business was doing it would really upset me!

Heard a funny "old folks" moment yesterday -
My nephew, 18, has formed this funny "odd couple" sort of bond with my Uncle Charlie. Uncle Charlie is 75, widowed and lives on his cattle operation in a tiny town with a population of 36 people in the middle of nowhere in Idaho.
So, nephew went to spend all of last summer with Uncle Charlie and at one point had called his mom to tell her about an encounter he had with a rattlesnake - but that's not the funny part.
Sister answers the phone and the first thing nephew says is, 'Wow, mom, it takes a really long time to dial your number here!" (NO cell service out there and sister's number is heavy on 9's and 0's -- Uncle Charlie has an old, wall mounted, rotary dial phone...same one he had when I was a little kid)
Nephew tells her the story and sister says, "Wow, that's really neat --- but it's the middle of the day there and this is long distance." Nephew says, "What's that?".
This kid has definitely come up in a generation that has no concept of the very real struggles of rotary dial, waiting until after 9 to call people, etc --- he'd lose his mind dealing with dial-up internet :lau

Thanks.
I am just so glad that Wild Blue does it to help their customers out for free.
I have all kinds of firewall, internet security, maleware, spyware protection and still have issues.
Then again so does the whole country! So I don't feel so bad.

Agreed about the big attitude in a small package! When they were in with the main standard sized flock, he quickly rose to first lieutenant under the big alpha Buff O/Welsummer cross rooster. I had no doubt that he would have risen to alpha eventually out of sheer bravado and determination.

This is the little cockerel who used to ride on the backs of the Welsummer hens trying to mate them and they would just ignore him and go about their business with him still riding around on their backs. The buff O hens would squat for him but not those Welly girls.

Later this spring, I'm separating the standard roosters from the Buff O and Welsummer hens and introducing three bantam roosters to the remaining standard hens and the Bantam hens I'm putting in with them. Should be interesting to see who comes up alpha.

Looks like she will be a one chick momma. No sign of life in the remaining egg. I'm glad she has once chick to raise out of the 4 that she set and this one is a cutie.

Happy Memorial Day everyone.

Remember. If you love your freedom, thank a veteran!
Both are cuties! :love

Someone has been remotely accessing my computer since Friday. I am sitting here waiting on tech support to fix my co.puter. this has been stressing me out.

He's a handsome guy! :love Are you going to keep any offspring from him from the bantams?

I've got Flash and Mr. Olga (Mr. Olga doesn't want to stay in the shed) with the flock. They're wonderful with the girls.

OEGBs are just so sweet.:love And fierce! One of last January's rooster flew out last night to roost with the girls. Tossed him in the back pen with my youngest OEGB and two little crosses from last fall. Woke up this morning thinking..."holy moly, got to get down to the coop and get the big guy out before he hurts someone." The big guy's in the corner behind the cage trying his best to get away from the two little guys. :lau

One of the little guys will have a big guy move in on him in the big shed and the rest of the OEGBs come running and put the run on the big roosters. They're such cool little birds! DH saw a really nice coop at the city feed store and he's wondering if we can get a deal if we buy two for the OEGBs. I have no objection here. :clap

20170527_205203.jpg After my causing commotion the other night...some have decided to sleep in the rafters of the shed, 30-40 feet up. At least they're safe...lol.
20170528_112920.jpg This little guy is the one who watched me dust everybody. Now he interjects himself every time I'm doing something in the shed. Like taking pictures yesterday.
