The Old Folks Home

We are looking at continued hot temperatures along with a chance of storms through Saturday then cooler weather in thelow 80s. We really need the rain but I can live without temps in the mid 90s day after day.

I've been battling deer in my garden this year. The little freakin darlings keep nibbling at my greenbeans. I've tried netting, they pull it off, I've tried 50 pound test fishing line strung around the parameter, they break it. All I have in the mornings are deep prints in the rows and little greenbean stems sticking up in the air. At least they are trying to recover. Unfortunately we seem to be experiencing a bumper crop of white clover this year which means we also have a bumper crop of bunnies. In the past our dogs would keep the population down but the youngest are 4 years old now and they just seem to think that diving in for the long haul chase isn't worth the effort or the small amount of meat should they get lucky enough to snare a bunny.

I can haul out the coyote urine granules to deter them but the big doe that is using my garden as a salad bar isn't going to let coyote pee stop her from tasting my guarden.

We NEED to see pictures of your renovation!! Please!!
The rest of the kitchen counter was installed yesterday. The bathroom sink top is not finished. The Stairs are finished except for some finishing touches. The floors still need to have the floor attached to the transition between the living room and the dining room.

The new counter is 2 inches thick and the faucet and fixtures need to go through it. The faucet is too short to go through so I have extensions coming. The Dishwasher air gap is too short too.

I will work on getting pictures this weekend or maybe tonight if I can get the sink connected. For now, I have some hatching eggs

We have more than 20 shag bark hickory tree on our 4 acres. Our property type is what is known as an oak-hickory savanna. Here is a picture after a hoar frost that emphasizes the way the bark spreads away from the tree. All the other trees in the background are hickory trees.

WOW! That is such a beautiful & bizarre looking tree! I've never seen anything like it.

Whatcha doing with white eggs Ron? Do you not still have those fancy Penn.... (however they are spelled)?

Me... having such issues long distance with the animals

Greatly dislike my in-laws. They only live maybe 2 miles from my house....but driving my kids over to do a few things is sooooooooo upsetting for them. :duc :he

The animal feed was to be stored in a car...... so the car could be left unlocked, and the house left locked.

They locked the car
....
I ask them to go over and unlock the car, so the animal sitter can feed animals...

In-laws act like I have asked them to chop off their toe. Dude!! When I left the car was unlocked.

So today....

Yep, animal sitter texts me...yep. car still locked.

Yep, In-laws or outlaws?

I am probably the outlaw.

Everyone looooves the in-laws, and think I am slime because I don't.

Spouse too.

But really....why is it so difficult to go unlock the car? Why can't they do that without getting grumpy? I didn't mess it up!!

Guys, you can pick your friends, you can even pick your enemies but you are just plain S*****D when it comes to family.

What's that old saying? I feel much better since I've given up all hope? I modify that to be I feel much better since I put a lot of distance between me and my family!:lau

None of them would drive the distance when I lived 50 miles from them in IL to visit me so I'm pretty safe they won't show up anytime soon since we moved 200 miles away from them all.

Cyn, I know it's a bit rough, but hang in there.

My daughter, and grandkids come stay with me frequently. I actually enjoy it when they do. The only reason I have mixed feelings about them going back home, glad, but sad too, is due to the ages of my grandchildren. They're very young, and so full of energy, but not yet old enough to somewhat independent, and self reliant, so they wear me out.

Having my friend, and her grandson stay with me was not the problem. There's more to the story regarding when my friend stayed. The issue was how the rest of her family came pouring in on me uninvited, what they expected from me, and how they treated me.

My suggestion is to stock up on Solo type plastic cups, and plates, plastic silverware, and fix large easy meals like spaghetti, stew, chicken and rice, chili, beans and rice, neck bones and rice etc. Set it out, so they can help themselves, and you don't have to serve them. Clean up is so much easier that way too. Take a marker, and put each person's initial, or name on a clean plastic cup each morning, and that way you don't go through a ton of cups. Don't make anything harder on yourself than you have to, especially if there is an easier solution.

:thI nominate you for sainthood/knighthood too!!! :hugs
