The Old Folks Home

It took a lot of self control, and a few days.

I cleaned out the turkey's nest, there's nothing in there - no shavings, no hay, no eggs, just plywood. And turkey.

There's a nest next to hers that has shavings in it, but no fake eggs, and in the evenings I usually find her over there. Sometimes one of the chickens has laid an egg in it.

I get my 2x4 out, and push her out of the nest. She gets all puffy and irritated, but I'm about 8 feet away at this point, so she doesn't come after me. All she does is shake and collect herself, then immediately turn and jump into the nest with nothing in it. She spends the night there. Rinse and repeat.

She did bite a large round part of my anatomy the other day as I was trying to get eggs laid under the nest boxes. I hurt my knee hiking with Dsqard and try not to bend it unless I have to.
Time for slow roasted turkey!

Only time I've ever made bread at home was in a bread machine and the crust turned out out hard as a rock. It was fine after I cut the crust off

I started making bread weekly when I was 12-6 loaves at a time. Try that with a bread machine!
Now I make three loaves at a time and freeze 2 of them. You will need bread pans but they are very in expensive. Other than that, It is simple ingredients and some muscles for kneading the dough! Takes out some aggression and will help build upper body strength.

Bread

7-10 cups flour 1/4 cup sugar

1 Tbs salt 2 pck. yeast

3 cup water 1/3 cup olive oil(or peanut)

Heat water to 110°, put salt, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and pour water over and add oil, stir with wire whip until dissolved.

First Kneed:

Stir in 4 cups of flour until mixed well. Add more flour until you have a stiff dough and then kneed until dough is smooth and elastic (3-8 minutes).

Cover and let rise about one hour.

Punch down and kneed until smooth. Divide dough into thirds, shape into 3 loaves and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour) and then bake at 400° for 20-30 minutes. Bread is done when the bottom sounds hollow when you tap it and internal temperature is 195 to 205 degrees.

Variations:

Replace Sugar with Molasses, Honey, Raw Sugar or etc.

Up to half of the flour can be replaced with other types of flour or nuts and etc. Whole Wheat flour will absorb more water, so let the first kneed be a bit sticky.

Optional: Add 2 tbl. Of potato flour with the flour.

Optional: Add 2 tsp malt powder to the water mixture.

Each cup of water will make one loaf of bread. Adjust the ingredient amounts to match the number of loaves you want.

Simple and delicious!
