The Old Folks Home

Wickedchicken6, Buck is a perpetual motion machine. He was about 11 months old when that picture was taken. He LOVED the snow and was like a little kid. He and his sister are 4 years old now. Getting clipped by a neighbor's truck (not his fault, he did everything he could to avoid the little idiot when she got through the fence and decided to take on his truck) and breaking her pelvis slowed his sissy down a bit but not much. They are both like the old saying of diamonds and dynamite coming in small packages.

Yeah, I wish I had a tenth of their energy.
It's all wrong. We should start out life as babies...but very slow. As we grow up and learn...we should become faster as we develop. Right now we should be at peak performance with no aches or pains...to match all that we know. Can you just imagine how much could be accomplished if this is the way things happened??
I day dream a lot...but it's nice dreams. :wee

We went to the city yesterday. I shopped and ate fast food. (I was out-voted) Today was a world of pain. :lau I didn't even turn over last night because my body hurt so much...lol. It's 3:30pm and I'm finally starting to feel a bit more human.

@perchie.girl Heavy is an understatement! I looked at the mats. I can buy the virtually indestructible 3/4 horse mat for cheaper dough than I can buy the 1/4 "utility" mat meant more for walking on in the "anti-fatigue" sense. I didn't buy either...I'm thinking about it. If I buy the heavy mat...it will go in and never come out...lol.

I bought paint to paint the chicken houses' interiors. Apparently the most expensive interior semi-gloss there was.:hmm But it was on a very good sale. It has the primer mixed in and "should" be a breeze to work with. Main thing I liked was that it was VOC free. So it won't kill me or the birds.:yesss:
Can't believe I'm one of the people who are sensitive to that stuff. :he
If I was an animal or bird...I'd cull myself! bash.gif

No self culling! We all have to make better choices to help protect the environment.
Love a good sale!

I gotta agree with Speckled Sussex. I have one hen. Wish I had more. We are expecting rain here tonight and my grow out pen isn't rain proof so I put 9 fledglings in an empty coop with my SS hen who has just weaned her babies but is still baby friendly. When I left them, Three of the youngsters were standing in the food bowl nibbling food off Speckle's beak and she was letting them. They are over 5 weeks old. Now that is a great hen, IMHO.

Yeah...my Spitz are like that.

I had a 3 week old Spitz jump into the newly hatched baby chick brooder, and it just looked them over, ate some of their feed, and then flew back out. He didn't peck them even once.

I also had a bunch of little chicks, I think a month old, they escaped from their brooder and the adult Spitz didn't touch them!

They are super inquisitive and just plain sweet. Not super snuggly, but very nice birds.

They are also great layers.

Could you post a couple pictures, Alaskan?

Anyone have any recommendations for a good hatchery? I need some chicks and the one i usually use has quit hatching polish for the year.
probably too late with this but I ordered from Hoover's Hatchery this year. Never going to ever order from anyone else! Healthiest, friendliest growing into the most beautiful close to SOP hatchery birds I've ever seen!!! Did I say I really like Hoover's Hatchery???
