The Old Folks Home

I've never had the best luck with trying to save ducklings. I'm happy these are thriving...they wouldn't be if it wasn't for the wonderful advice I've been given from members on here.:clap

Wickedchicken6 you are starting to sound like me.

I open the coop door every morning and say " Okay! Who's dead this morning?"

Do they answer? (It's a terrible joke. I know.)

I opened my coop up the other morning and had a dead hen. Something was wrong laying wise. I'd noticed her, saw she was not acting normal and did an exam but there was nothing I could do. I question myself...I thought the white one was going to die...heck, still running around. She must have just had a bad day.

Yeah, but with my troubles with Marek's I'm trying to keep my sense of humor going even if it is a bit on the morbid side.

Frankly, it's never the one I'm expecting,. either.

I give a sigh of relief when I open the pop door and all the bantams pile out like Shriners out of a funny car. No limps, no dragging wings or feet, no fluffed feathers or closed eyes. Not today Mr Marek..maybe tomorrow but not today.

probably too late with this but I ordered from Hoover's Hatchery this year. Never going to ever order from anyone else! Healthiest, friendliest growing into the most beautiful close to SOP hatchery birds I've ever seen!!! Did I say I really like Hoover's Hatchery???
good prices and No shipping charges.... Awesome...

but great on your part to be strong enough to fight it
Thank you. :hugs

My old coop is two tiered. Lower tier is housing my new mom and her two week old babies. The upper has 9 fledgling along with my SS hen who is baby friendly and a Welly hen who would rather sleep with chaos than deal with the bantam cockerels. When I opened the door tonight to check on everyone and give them fresh water, my little accidental Buff O cockerel, the one I did the emergency assisted hatch on rushed up to me and jumped on my arm wanting cuddles. I think about his chances of survival to two years and almost broke out in tears. He is such a sweet little boy.

I'm taking each day as it comes and enjoying them as much as I can each day. That's about all I can do. That and not give up.. I refuse to give up. My momma didn't raise any quitters.
