I don't think a lot of my classmates ever set foot in a care facility growing up. Perhaps that's why it's such a shock to people. They've just never been exposed to any of it. I grew up with my grandparents. That's changes the experiences considerably...lol.

Hmmmm...yours looks/sounds like Setaria (foxtail millets)...and I think mine looks like Hordeum jubatum (foxtail barley)

True!! My kids frequently come up to the nursing home with me. They participate in activities and sing and understand the complexities. They have seen death, they have grieved loss. I think this helped them when I lost my mother. I think that every teenager/adult should be acclimated to this particukar stage of life. I'm not saying all end up like this or anything I just know a lot do and its always better to know how to react amd what to expect. And sometimes to these residents any smiling face makes the difference to them. Especially residents without family!

Yes, it can be a lonely time for them. I think simple acknowledgement can be a bright spot in their day. We try to smile and be engaging with the residents when we visit my Grandmother. Many residents are sitting by the door where we walk in.

My grandma just turned 101 and I live with her.... so far so good. she looses words now and then and a decimal place now and then but shes pretty dang independant...

That is great! I always like to see family members try to be as active in families life as possible. Some can not take care of them at home but make full effort to do as much as possible while they are with us. Its always refreshing to see. You are one special person!!! And wtf to your grams!! Still doing so good!

Hello!

I bet you all thought I had fallen and been eaten by my chickens. Well, no such luck, I'm alive and well and enjoying my retirement to the fullest. I have a part time job and I have been to the beach for a total of four weeks this summer.

School starts tomorrow and my last baby boy will be in the 11th grade. His two older brothers will both be in college.

We closed on a house last week and I have been working on getting it in shape to live in (for my oldest son.) He will be working full time soon and needs something to spend his money on besides his girl, his truck, and his friends.

I am not going to try to catch up. Let me know if there is anything I NEED to know. To all the new old folks - Welcome!! To all those who have been ill or injured - I'm sorry you feel bad and hope you feel better soon. To any who may have lost loved ones - You have my condolences and my empathy. I'm still grieving over my Dad.

I love you all, and wish (there I go again) you all well.

@Chickensnewto me, I worked for 7 years in custodial care plus took care of two parents with dementia and can relate with everything you have said.

Yep, full moons were the worst. 2nd was thunderstorms. During the full moons we used to threaten to buy black bath towels and lay them in front of all the Alzheimers/dementia patient's doors so they would stay in their rooms. Especially Alzheimers patients have no depth perception at all. They see something dark on the floor, they can't tell if it is a book or a chasm so they do an exaggerated step over it just in case. A black towel in front of a doorway will keep them in their rooms. We never did it but boy it was tempting. You would find them wandering around all night and their symptoms would escalate.

The same with new born babies. Full moon equalled increases in deliveries and the babies were always cranky during a full mone and when it was about to storm or snow. Nothing like the sound of 30 some odd babies bellowing at the top of their lungs.

Every now and then we would talk to ER nurses and they would always say how stressful and hard their job was. We would tell them that we were always ready to hire good nurses and they would quick;y say "Oh NO I could never do your job?"

Funniest was when I was working as a temp and was assigned to a hospital extended care facility where the staff nurses apologized to me because they assigned me 4 patients. I just chuckled and told them 4 was nothing. I was used to taking care of 32. They gasped and asked me how I did it, and got everything done in 8 hours. My response was "Very quickly!"

Yep the work is exhausting and heart breaking but I learned more in the 7 years that I worked in the industry than I learned working in any hospital.

I guess we are kindred nurse spirits.

I am blanking.

I wanted to ask if he had a recommendation as to a free download that would clean up my son''s computer. It is an old windows 7, and still works very well...it is just slowing down
I am sure because it just has too much junk on it.

What is odd is that defragging the hard drive takes WAY longer than I think it should, but it doesn't find much. It is scheduled to defrag once a week.

Not sure what to do next.

If you go to the file manager and alt-click(The other button on the mouse, right click for right handed people) and select properties and then tools. look for windows cleanup. Remove all of the temporary files and any windows junk that is there. After that, run disk check and let it check on startup. After that, go back to tools and then run the defragmentor tool.

If you suspect spyware, I use spybot. Make sure to download it from the main website.
