The Old Folks Home

I had a Jersey Giant, Black Betty. She was hatchery stock. She was not huge like she should have been - maybe slightly bigger than a hatchery RIR - and she was slow. OMG slow. She'd mosey. Her and the brahma were the slowest chickens I've ever seen. There was never anything to be in a rush about, even if there was food involved. The rest of the birds would turn on turbo (raise and flap their wings when they ran) but these birds would mosey. Not a great layer. Died early. However, the bird was friendly, never a pain - went to bed early, didn't require a personal invitation, never flew anywhere, never got stuck in a compromising position...

Compromising positions - I've had to extract the same guinea hen from between the duck house and the duck fence multiple times. Eventually I realized the bird wasn't going to learn and I had to move the duck house out further from the fence.

So your guineas are kinda like goony birds. (south pacific - albatross) They always take off and land from the same "runway" and in the same direction. If you build a wall in that flight path, they'll fly right into it. Visited Midway and had to do FOD (foreign object damage) patrols of the ramps and runways before flights in case of dead birds. They really mess with turbine engines when ingested... Always a few who had flown into (collision, not inside) the hanger or other buildings at night. Cool birds though.

Compromising position...
While going insane mamma wedged herself between the fence and a tree (where she shouldn't have even been able to fit)and had to be extracted while losing some feathers.
I had to leave for awhile so the chicks would come back, couldn't catch the little buggers they just kept getting deeper into the brush and I couldn't get to the darn things. They eventually came back to the fence and were caught.
I really didn't want to ask for DW's help, she still doesn't know there is two more mouths to feed.
Almost got the NNs culled down to a small breeding group again so the feed bill $$ is getting better.
