Just got back from picking wild blackberries with the kids. Still not quite time yet, not many ripe but we got enough for a couple pies. Was easy picking as far as having nice beaten down trails through the brush and didn't get tore up, just had to step over a occasional pile of bear poop

I've gotta get the house cleaned up & make sure all the food buckets actually have food in them before the petsitter comes in tonight. Its gonna be like circus in here today trying to find 5 people warm clothes that haven't been seen since January, packing up a picnic dinner & getting everyone all the way downtown in time to find a spot on the grass. I hope we're making a fun memory & not one of those disastrous, "remember when mom made us..." ones.

Sometimes it is a fine line but you are giving them a memory either way, and that is what counts!

15 hours of work later, and it was all suddenly so worth it.

bear poop! I hope you're carrying protection when you're out there! Do your kids know what to do if you encounter one?

Awesome Job SGC... How do you get the Algae off the stone? And is there something you can coat it with to keep the Algae from forming again?

Water and a soft scrub brush (something you can rub on your skin and not hurt yourself with) got this off. I also applied a substance called D2 which is a biocide. It will start to kill the growth and works for about 6 months to continually lighten the stone and works after that to help prevent more growth for a time. But all that crap came off with just a scrub brush and water. D2 has been studied, is safe for the stones (only do it on stones that are stable and not sugary feeling - scrubbing those may damage them - you can spray it on those though, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes NO SCRUBBING then rinse). I can already see a huge difference on the stones I cleaned with D2 earlier this summer - they're getting nice and white and are easier to read. I mix D2 1:1 with water.

Is there a way to make a faded inscription legible?

Couple of ways - strong flashlight and move it around to try and get shadows to form just right. You can also do it with a big mirror and try to catch the strong sunlight on the stone with the mirror refracting it. Other ways - take a photo with your cell phone at many angles and then play with the photos or dampen the stone with just water. The last way is to clean the stone (provided it's safe to clean) - getting gunk in the inscription always seems to help (always rinse to clear when done).

Built and painted the back door for the coop. Flooring trimmed and about half the trim boards are on. The rest are painted and need just cutting and installation. Installed and painted 4 boards under the metal roof to fill gaps. The first board for the divider is in place and painted. And i cut a hole up high in the wall and installed the first of 2 vents.
Tomorrow i hope to install the other vent and cut 2 ten foot boards to divert water from the skylight. This time i have lots of caulk and adhesive. Some of the caulk i used before is still not dry in this humidity! And perhaps i can install that back door.

The kids each pack a Bond Arms mini 45.
Nah, I don't worry about it, though I do have a large hunting knife. Same one I carry for backup bowhunting.
I talk loud, make some noise, no surprising bears.

The bear trails made it easier though I did push through some brush and brambles. Hope the trails are from other people picking berries, doubtful but some do the same as we. When you see tree stumps and logs rolled around and tore up also in the trails you pretty much know it ain't deer, and then the big brown/black seed full 'logs' Lol! Saw one in the dirt road on the way out I almost stopped to take a pic, was a huge buffalo flop right full of little seeds, pretty sure they were choke cherry pits. Guess bears don't chew very good. IDK, maybe it's instinctive, cherry pits are poisonous I think.
Pretty funny, I like it quiet, shhhh, hunting or fishing. Even fishing with the kids, shut up, be quiet, fish can hear.

Yeah, my Shepherd likes to roll in the stuff. It has its own special smell. Not my favorite.
