The Old Folks Home

here it is well know that dogs either get prickles once.....or every single blasted time they see one!

luckily our dog is a "oncer"
That's how it goes with the coon hunters here, do or don't, some get into them once and never again, those that are dumb stupid get them bad, right down into their throats ... over and over again, ...

nasty!

Can't imagine it that bad! Guess you would have to go to the vet. Hack, cough.

The one time our dog got one it wasn't too bad. He had them in his nose and the front of his mouth. A couple spines had already gone into his gums. Nasty to pull them out.... but I am sure he had less than 50 total.

I am so glad he only did it once.

Only had a couple run ins with the porcupine. Once with my best bud and our beagles, they sounded weird, thought they were on a snowshoe hare, then realized they wern' t running sounded treed, cornered a porc, but didn't touch it so we were good.
wonder how they knew not to touch?

Last time a porc came close to the house our dog barked like crazy, but was VERY careful to keep about 3 feet or more away. He kind of circled it, throwing a fit, making sure we knew that was one nasty beast.

I'm not an expert but I'll be happy to give you my $0.02 - and I'll tell you that unfortunately usually the best/right way is the slow/hand way. I am glad you're going to be taking care of the stones, feel free to ask questions here or PM if they're intense so we don't completely alienate everyone on here.

Sounds good. It will still be a little while, I don't have time currently to drive all the way out there all the time to maintain it since I'm not out there all the time right now. When I move the horses it will just be a matter of hiking up the hill or riding a horse or the 4-wheeler up there while the horses eat. Like I said, most are fieldstone, so they won't be harmed by waiting a bit.

DH just became newest detention officer in our county! So proud of him.
