I used to have my own kiln and wheel but in a bout of depression i sold it all. I would not have had space to bring it with us anyway. I do miss making things terribly.Cap do you have your own kiln?
I would LOVE to have my own kiln. I used to do ceramic art some twenty years ago and I would love to get back into it again. I had just started working with porcelain and really miss it, especially since I have three bows I need to glaze and fire right now.
Dropping turkeys from a plane...wasn't there a WKRP in Cincinnati episode about that? They dropped domestic turkeys out of a plane over a shopping mall. I keep remembering the line "Mr Carlton, I swear we thought turkeys could fly".![]()
I think they really do per the new article.
I sold all my project bronze and a boubon red turkey to a lady that has a huge farm not to far from us. She said she just wanted them to roam her property. Dh said she likely is going to breed them for one of the local hunting clubs.
We have a lot of wild turkeys here. I keep seeing the same 2 hens and their broods. Husband saw a big flock by the end of the driveway. Interesting birds.I'm sorry, that is just wrong. But different strokes as the old saying goes. A hunting reserve in the next county has ruined the deer hunting around here. They brought in imported white tails that were infected with CWD (prion disease, aka chronic wasting disease) One of the deer got out and spread it to the wild deer. Now over 20 counties in southern and north easter Missouri are fighting the disease in the wild deer population.
I'm not a big fan of hunt clubs.
One day I remember our dogs looking out the front windows barking. I looked out and saw movement in the tall grass between our fence and the incline to the road. A second later I saw a turkey head pop up above the tall grass. It looked around, disappeared, another head popped up. The dogs were going nutz and I was wanting to see how many birds were in that grass so I let the dogs out. I swear over 20 birds flew out of that tall grass, across the road and up into the timber across the road. They are such amazing fliers.. From that point on I started puting out corn for them in the winter. Usually all we see is one or two birds, but every now and then we get lucky and see the whole flock.

Yeah, and the game is brought in for them to hunt. So it is not really wild and not in its own environment. Not a sporting hunt, imo.I did not have any idea about the hunting club until they left. That's when dh said they were likely raising them for one of the hunting clubs. We do have several around here.
I don't like it but there is nothing I can do about it.
I am not against people hunting for food.
To me it takes the "HUNT" out of it in a club.
